Former NBA player Darrell Armstrong, the assistant coach for the Dallas Mavericks, was arrested early Saturday morning, February 15, 2025, on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
According to reports, Armstrong, 56, allegedly struck his girlfriend with a gun during an argument at a Dallas apartment complex.
The victim, who was waiting for assistance at a nearby 7-Elevan, told the police that the argument began after she discovered a text message from another woman on Armstrong’s phone.
Armstrong, who had been drinking, allegedly hit her on the right side of the face with a gun and threatened to shoot her.
He was booked into jail and later released on $35,000 bail. Following the incident, The Mavericks have placed Armstrong on administration suspension pending the outcome of legal proceedings.
The team released a statement saying,
We take this matter seriously and are gathered all relevant information surrounding the incident. The employee has been placed on administrative suspension pending the outcome of legal proceedings. This matter is currently under review by the appropriate legal authorities.
Meanwhile, the NBA is also involved in gathering information and contacting the Mavericks to monitor the situation. The league has yet to make any official comments but is closely following the developments.
