In the recent game against the Utah Jazz on November 14, 2024, Naji Marshall delivered an impressive performance off the bench despite the Mavericks’ narrow 115-113 loss.

He scored 19 points on efficient 9-of-14 shooting, along with 2 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals over 34 minutes.

While not starting, Marshall outshone many starters and emerged as the team’s second-highest scorer after Luka Dončić.

Marshall’s journey to the NBA epitomizes resilience.

Undrafted in 2020, he joined the New Orleans Pelicans, earning a reputation as a gritty player with strong defensive instincts.

During his time with the Pelicans, he consistently improved, particularly in his shooting efficiency.

By the 2023-2024 season, he hit career highs in field-goal and three-point percentages.

In 2024, Marshall made a bold move to the Dallas Mavericks, signing a three-year, $27 million contract.

Often compared to former Maverick Derrick Jones Jr., Marshall brings an edge to the team, filling a vital role as a defensive anchor and energizer.

Naji Marshall’s Parents Are From Sports Background

Marshall’s tenacity is deeply rooted in his upbringing.

His father, Maurice “Naji” Marshall, was a professional boxer in the 1990s, a fact that sheds light on Naji’s toughness and competitive spirit.

Growing up under the influence of a father who excelled in a physically demanding sport likely instilled in him the grit needed to thrive in the NBA.

He was born in Atlantic City, spent his summers and vacations here, but went to high school and lived most of the year in Maryland.

He is the first NBA player with Atlantic City roots since Lou Roe played with the Golden State Warriors in 1996-97.

“I’m just blessed. A kid from Atlantic City (in the NBA), that’s not said a lot in history.”

His father is currently a basketball coach at an elementary school, fostering young talent and contributing to the community.

His mother, Rayna Whitted, works at Providence Hospital in Washington, D.C., balancing her professional life with supporting her son’s NBA journey.

This strong familial foundation has been instrumental in building the character and drive that define his approach to the game.
