Damien Harris Parents: Having grown up without a father figure, Damien Harris credits his single mother for his sports success.
Many football fans might not be aware of the fact that are unaware that Harris’ mother had a big role in his early football success.
Today, let’s learn more about the running back’s mom. How did she manage to raise three kids alone without their father?
Damien Harris is an American football running back of the National Football League (NFL) who previously played college football at the University of Alabama.
During his time with the Crimson Tide, he had several impressive seasons, showcasing his skills as a running back.
Harris was selected by the New England Patriots in the third round (87th overall) of the 2019 NFL Draft. This marked the beginning of his professional football career.
He made his NFL debut with the New England Patriots in the 2019 season. He scored his first NFL touchdown on November 9, 2020, in a game against the New York Jets. This was a significant moment in his professional career.
In the 2020 NFL season, the running back had a breakout year, becoming the Patriots’ primary running back. He displayed his running ability and contributed significantly to the team’s ground game.
On March 21, 2023, Harris inked a one-year deal worth $1.7 million with the Buffalo Bills. He notched his inaugural touchdown as a Bill in a dominating 38–10 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders in week 2.
Damien Harris’ Parents: Mother Lynn Harris And Father
Damien Harris, born on February 11, 1997, is the 27-year-old.
His single mother, Lynn Harris, raised him in Richmond, Kentucky, alongside his two younger siblings.
His mother plays a crucial role in his football journey. When Damien was six, he wasn’t into playing and felt uncomfortable with his helmet.
Despite having no father figure at home, Lynn’s friend, youth coach Mike Goggins, recognized the need for support.
Goggins stepped up, providing Damien with a new helmet to alleviate the physical discomfort. However, his disinterest in playing continued.
In the snow, Lynn insisted Damien play or face consequences, sparking his winning touchdown and Super Bowl victory.
Fearing the unknown, Damien accepted the challenge and scored a 98-yard touchdown, helping Goggins’ team, the 49ers, make it to the Super Bowl.
Despite a fever, Damien played, and scored, and the 49ers won an undefeated season.
Damien attributes his success to his mom’s tough love and determination. Reflecting on their close bond, he says,
“My mom’s like my best friend… She’s been the rock of our family. As a football player, the things I’ve learned from her – resiliency, selflessness – have been crucial to my development. I appreciate and love her more than anything. Without her, I wouldn’t be the man I am today.”
Even at seven, Damien realized he needed to step up as Lynn’s only son and the oldest of her three children in a house full of women.
Damien Harris’ Suffered A Neck Injury
In October 2023, Buffalo Bills’ Harris was taken off the field in an ambulance during the game against the New York Giants.
He remained on the ground following a tackle after receiving the ball from quarterback Josh Allen.
Bills staff quickly came onto the field, placing Damien on a gurney. His teammate, Damar Hamlin, who had experienced cardiac arrest on the field earlier in the year, observed from the sidelines, appearing distressed.
Harris gave a thumbs-up, then was lifted into the ambulance and taken from the stadium.
According to a post on the team’s X account (previously Twitter), retweeted by the team’s page, Damien is sidelined due to a neck injury.
The post stated,
“Injury Update: Damien Harris (neck) is out for the game. He has movement in his arms and legs. Harris is being taken to the hospital for further testing.”
Therefore, the unfortunate incident occurred shortly before the end of the second quarter, with the Giants leading 6-0.
