David Andersen | Early Life, Family & Education
David Andersen was born in Melbourne, Australia, to parents Dany Andersen (Danish) and Mary Andersen (Australian). Stuart Andersen, Brett Andersen, Grant Andersen are the names of his siblings.
At 11, he started playing basketball and joined his local basketball association Frankston Blues. His mother and brother have coached him since he started playing basketball.
His first team was Frankston Blues. After playing with his team, he led the team to win the under 12 championships as a junior. When he reached 15, he joined the senior Frankston blue men’s team.
After playing with Frankston, he got the opportunity to join the Australian Institute of Sports Basketball Development Program. Furthermore, he moved to Canberra and partnered with AIS.
He joined the Ginninderra Secondary College. In addition, Andersen played some games for AIS from 1996-to 1998 and got the reward of Australian Junior Male Basketballer of the Year.

Australia & Italy
After playing from the college, Andersen first signed with Wollongong Hawks in 1998-1999. It was also a part of the Australian National Basketball League.
He scored an average of 6.2 points and four rebounds per game. In 1999, he left the hawks and signed with Kinder Bologna of the Italian League. He signed a multi-year deal and helped Bologna win the Italian Cup.
Andersen was nominated for the LBA All-Star Game. But unfortunately, the club went into bankruptcy, and he had to force himself to leave Bologna.
In June 2002, he got an overall pick of 37th in the 2002 NBA draft by the Atlanta Hawks. Montepaschi Siena was the next team where he signed a deal for the season of 2003-2004.

Russia

David Andersen signed a deal with Spanish Liga ACB, FC Barcelona, in June 2008. He helped his team win the 2008-2009 ACB season championship.
NBA
After playing in various country leagues, he decided to play for the NBA teams for two years.
On 14 July 2009, he was first drafted by the Atlanta Hawks. Later, the Hawks traded him to the Houston Rockets in exchange for future drafts and cash considerations and signed a multi-year deal with the Rockets.
He scored 19 points for international teams against the Los Angeles Lakers, winning over 101-91.
Similarly, on 28 July 2010, he was traded to the Toronto Raptors for a short period. New Orleans Hornets was his next team, where he got traded along with Marcus Banks and Jarrett Jack on 28 November 2010.

Apart from the international seasons and leagues, he also represented his country many times. He played at the Albert Schweitzer Tournament in 1998 and was voted the most valuable tournament player.
He traveled to Portugal and Japan to play the tournament of FIBA Under-19 and the FIBA Under-21 championships for Junior Men.
In the off-season of 2003, he was selected by the Australian Boomers to play in the team and secured a place in the 2004 Summer Olympics.
