David Richard Freese is a retired American professional baseball player who primarily played as a third baseman.
He began his career with the St. Louis Cardinals and became prominent during the 2011 postseason. He achieved remarkable batting statistics there.
In the National League Championship Series (NLCS), he batted .545 with 12 hits and set a record of 21 RBIs, earning him both the NLCS MVP and World Series MVP awards.
Additionally, Freese won the Babe Ruth Award for being the most valuable player of the 2011 MLB postseason. He also played for the Los Angeles Angels, Pittsburgh Pirates, and Los Angeles Dodgers throughout his career.
Freese’s baseball journey started with a promising high school career, but he initially turned down a college scholarship to take a break from the sport.
After a year off, he felt a renewed passion and joined St. Louis Community College–Meramec before transferring to the University of South Alabama.
In the 2006 MLB Draft, the San Diego Padres selected Freese in the ninth round.
The Cardinals acquired him in 2008, and he made his MLB debut in 2009 due to an injury to the starting third baseman.
Despite facing his injuries, Freese had an outstanding 2011 season, culminating in a World Series championship for the Cardinals.
