Dearica Hamby filed a federal discrimination complaint against the Las Vegas Aces and the WNBA, alleging that she was traded from the Aces in early 2023 due to her pregnancy and that the league failed to investigate her claims properly.
Her case sparked discussions about player rights, workplace discrimination, and the WNBA’s handling of such allegations.
Dearica claimed that the team discriminated against her after she announced her pregnancy in late 2022.
She alleged that the Aces’ front office, including head coach Becky Hammon, belittled her condition and ultimately traded her to the Los Angeles Sparks.
The Los Angeles Sparks forward also accused the WNBA of failing to investigate her claims thoroughly and alleged that the league retaliated against her by not renewing her marketing agreement.
