Dearica Hamby, an American basketball player for the Los Angeles Sparks, is in the spotlight because netizens have assumed she is pregnant with her third child.

During the WNBA draft night, she wore a relaxed-fit pink baby doll dress for the Orange Carpet, which fueled her pregnancy rumors.

Dearica Marie Hamby began playing basketball at Marietta and Norcross High Schools. Later, she committed to playing college basketball at Wake Forest.

The San Antonio Stars, which became the Las Vegas Aces in 2018, selected her with the sixth overall pick in the 2015 NBA draft.

She was voted almost unanimously for the 2019 WNBA Sixth Woman of the Year and 2020 Sixth Woman of the Year.

She extended her contract with the Aces on June 29, 2022, and led them to the 2022 WNBA Championship. However, the Aces traded her to the Los Angeles Sparks on January 21, 2023.

Dearica was on the 3×3 national team that won the gold medal at the AmeriCup in December 2023.

Dearica Hamby Isn’t Expecting Her Third Child With Her Husband, Alonzo Nelson-Ododa

WNBA star Dearica Hamby turned heads at the 2025 WNBA Draft Orange Carpet with her fashion choice that ignited pregnancy rumors on social media.

The Los Angeles Sparks forward wore a flowy pink baby doll dress, which led some fans to speculate that she might be expecting her third child.

Dearica, known for her humor and quick wit, didn’t let the rumors slide.

She took to X (formerly Twitter) to playfully address the speculation, sharing a hilarious photo of herself lying in bed with her two children.

She exaggeratedly puffed out her stomach and wrote “WNBA IS BACK” across it, accompanied by basketball emojis. The post nodded to the rumors while also celebrating the upcoming WNBA season.

Hamby and her husband, Alonzo Nelson-Ododa, have two children together. Their first child, daughter Amaya, was born in February 2017.

In September 2022, Dearica announced a memorable pregnancy during the Las Vegas Aces’ championship parade, revealing she was expecting her second child.

She later welcomed her son, Legend Maree Scandrick, in March 2023.

While the pregnancy rumors were just speculation, the WNBA player’s response proved that she doesn’t take herself too seriously and isn’t afraid to clap back at social media chatter with humor.

Dearica Hamby’s Complaint Against The WNBA And The Las Vegas Aces

Dearica Hamby filed a federal discrimination complaint against the Las Vegas Aces and the WNBA, alleging that she was traded from the Aces in early 2023 due to her pregnancy and that the league failed to investigate her claims properly.

Her case sparked discussions about player rights, workplace discrimination, and the WNBA’s handling of such allegations.

Dearica claimed that the team discriminated against her after she announced her pregnancy in late 2022.

She alleged that the Aces’ front office, including head coach Becky Hammon, belittled her condition and ultimately traded her to the Los Angeles Sparks.

The Los Angeles Sparks forward also accused the WNBA of failing to investigate her claims thoroughly and alleged that the league retaliated against her by not renewing her marketing agreement.

Regarding the marketing agreement, the WNBA noted that her contract expired nine months after she filed her complaint, arguing that the timing does not suggest retaliation.

The WNBA and the Aces have filed motions to dismiss her allegations. In legal filings from May 2024, the WNBA argued that the athlete lacks standing to sue the league because it does not directly employ players.

The league also disputed her claim that it ignored her complaints, pointing to its previous disciplinary actions against the Aces.

In May 2023, the WNBA suspended Becky Hammon for two games without pay and stripped the Aces of their 2025 first-round draft pick due to “impermissible player benefits” related to her case.
