Steve Spagnuolo, the accomplished defensive coordinator for the Kansas City Chiefs, has enjoyed a strong personal bond with his wife, Maria Spagnuolo, who has been by his side since their marriage in 2005.

Stephen Christopher Spagnuolo (born December 21, 1959) is an American football coach and the current defensive coordinator for the Kansas City Chiefs.

He has had a distinguished career in the NFL, coaching top defenses and winning four Super Bowls, one with the New York Giants and three with the Chiefs.

Spagnuolo is the only NFL coordinator to win Super Bowls with two different franchises.

His coaching journey began with stints in college football, including positions at the University of Connecticut, Maine, and Rutgers.

He entered the NFL as a defensive assistant with the Philadelphia Eagles from 1999 to 2006.

After two years as the Giants’ defensive coordinator, he became the head coach of the St. Louis Rams from 2009 to 2011.

Spagnuolo returned to defensive coordinator roles with the New Orleans Saints and the Giants before rejoining the Chiefs in 2019.

Notable defenses under his leadership include the 2007 Giants and 2023 Chiefs teams.

While Steve Spagnuolo’s coaching career has been full of accomplishments, his journey to the top has been equally supported by his wife, Maria Spagnuolo.

Steve Spagnuolo Met His Wife, Maria Spagnuolo, on a Blind Date!

Maria Spagnuolo, the wife of NFL defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, has been an essential figure in his life, personally and professionally.

Their love story began on a blind date, with Steve initially hesitant but ultimately swept off his feet by Maria’s warm personality and kindness.

The couple tied the knot in 2005 at the Vatican in Rome, a decision they kept secret from their families until just days before the trip.

Maria’s profession as a hairdresser has earned her praise for her genuine and caring nature.

She is well-loved by those who visit her salon. Her clients describe her as warm, welcoming, and always ready with a smile.

She worked at Nirvana Hair Gallery and Day Spa in Springfield, Pennsylvania, where her down-to-earth and positive attitude made a lasting impact.

While Maria is known for her kindness, she also has a humorous side.

During a hair appointment, when asked about the Patriots, Maria Spagnuolo revealed her dislike for Tom Brady.

This candidness shows her passionate personality and loyalty to her husband’s career.

One of Maria’s most endearing traits is her love for baking, especially her famous banana pudding.

She often sends her husband to work with homemade treats he shares with his players.

Her thoughtful gestures and support have undoubtedly contributed to Steve’s success as a coach and a person.

Maria Spagnuolo remains a key source of strength for her husband, and her love and devotion to their family continue to be the foundation of their enduring relationship.

In Case You Didn’t Know

  • Spagnuolo incorporates his Catholic faith into his coaching, often sharing Bible verses and reflections with his players.
  • He also offers personal support in times of crisis, such as when L’Jarius Sneed’s brother was tragically killed.
  • Inspired by comedian Tony Baker, the Spagnuolos introduced a “Cram Award” for the defender with the best hit in a Chiefs victory.
