Phil Hill Obituary- Delaware coach Phill Hill was 58 when he passed away on November 15. The former DMA basketball coach leaves behind his wife, Karen, and three kids- Tyler, Trevor, and Maya Hill.

A man well-known in the basketball community as well as throughout the entirety of Delaware, Phil Hill has left behind a glorious legacy. His family is yet to confirm the cause of his demise.

Hill retired from the role of basketball coach at DMA in 2021. He joined the team in 2012 as an assistant coach and led the side for nine seasons.

The former basketball coach’s son, Tyler Hill, has released a statement on behalf of the family on his social media handle.

The Delaware coach Phil Hill’s passing was confirmed by Delaware Military Academy’s school director on November 15. Hill, 58, began his coaching journey at Salesianum School as an 18-year-old senior. 

Phil joined DMA in 2012 as an assistant under head coach John Raymond, and Raymond stepped down after Phil’s first year. He led the Seahawks for nine seasons before retiring after the 2021 postseason with a 91-87 record and three DIAA Tournament appearances. 

The athletic director of DMA, Jeremy Jeanne, said, “Phil was not only a coach but also a mentor, a friend, and an inspiration to many.

His dedication, passion, and tireless efforts to support and guide others on and off the court will never be forgotten.” Jeanne added Phil’s positive influence and words will continue to carry throughout the lives of those he touched. 

Previously, DMA had given a glimpse of Phil’s coaching as they had mic’d him up for a game against First State Military Academy. But it’s not only basketball word that is mourning Phil’s demise. 

New Castle County Police also released a statement confirming Phil’s demise. Phil had previously served as a Lieutenant at The New Castle County Division of Police.

He began his career as a police in 1989 and retired as a lieutenant in 2013. During his time, Phil served for the Patrol Division, the CIU, and the Professional Standards Unit. 

Along with being a head basketball coach of DMA, Phil was also working for the State Attorney General’s Office. He recently served as the Major of Public Safety at Christina Care. 

Delaware Coach Phil Hill Family 

Delaware Coach Phil Hill’s family is currently mourning his demise. On November 16, 2023, Phil’s son Tyler Hill released a statement on his Facebook handle. 

The former Boston Red Sox minor league player Tyler Hill wrote on Facebook, “It still does not quite seem real, but You did what you do best and put up the fight of a lifetime, but God has bigger plans for you.”

The oldest son of Phil and his wife Karen, Tyler recalled how his dad would say he would easily beat Michael Jordan in a game. For Tyler, his dad was his favorite superhero, and at the end of his post, he wished he could at least be half the man he ever was. 

Born on March 4, 1996, Tyler graduated from Delaware Military and was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in 2014. He has previously played for several minor-league teams and is currently a free agent. 

Phil and Karen’s other son, Trevor Hill, lives in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and graduated from King’s College. The couple also have a daughter, Maya Hill, who is part of DMA’s women’s basketball team.
