DePaul University Soccer Player Chase Stegall Had Carried Forward His Father Milton Stegall’s Legacy In Sports!

A 20-year-old sophomore midfielder at DePaul University, Chase Stegall, took his last breath on Monday, June 2, 2025, in his residence hall on the university’s Lincoln Park campus.

Thus far, the precise details surrounding Chase Stegall’s demise remain concealed by the university, respecting the privacy of his family during this difficult time.

The announcement was made by DePaul President Rob Manuel in an email to the university community, leaving faculty, staff, and students in shock and sorrow.

Chase Stegall is survived by his parents, Darlene and Milton Stegall, a Blue Bombers legend, and his brother, Collin Stegall.

Thus far, the married couple of 23 years, Darlene and Milton, have broken their silence on the tragic demise of their beloved son.

Meanwhile, his brother, Collin Stegall, took to Instagram story, writing, “Missing you already.

After tying the knot on April 6, 2002, the couple first experienced parenthood with the arrival of their son, Chase, in 2004.

His father, Milton Stegall, better known as Milt Stegall, is a legendary figure in the world of gridiron football, widely regarded as one of the greatest players in Canadian Football League (CFL) history.

Born on January 25, 1970, in Cincinnati, Ohio, Milt had a 17-year professional career, including three seasons with the NFL’s Cincinnati Bengals and 14 seasons with the CFL’s Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

During his tenure with the Blue Bombers from 1995 to 2007, he set enduring league records, including 144 career receiving touchdowns and 147 total touchdowns.

A nine-time CFL All-Star, Milt was named the CFL’s Most Outstanding Player in 2002 and was inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 2012.

Now an analyst for the CFL on TSN, Milt’s pride in Chase’s soccer achievements was evident, as noted by TSN’s Farhan Lalji, who recalled Milt’s excitement when Chase earned his soccer scholarship to DePaul.

Milt, a proud father, often shared the achievements of his two sons on his Instagram.

Chase Stegall Was a Talented Midfielder at the DePaul Blue Demons Men’s Soccer Team!

Chase, born in Winnipeg in 2004 during his father’s time with the Blue Bombers, carried forward his father’s legacy.

A talented midfielder and cherished member of the DePaul Blue Demons men’s soccer team from Atlanta, Georgia, Chase Stegall, made a significant impact during his time at DePaul University.

He played in 16 of the team’s 17 matches during the past season, notably scoring a goal against Drake University, according to the DePaul Athletics website.

As a junior, Stegall showcased his skills in the 2024 season, appearing in 16 of DePaul’s 17 games.

He scored his sole goal of the season against Drake University on September 2, demonstrating his offensive contribution with 10 shots, seven of which were on goal.

Over the course of the season, he logged 369 minutes on the field, with a season-high of 42 minutes in a match against Butler on November 2.

As a freshman in 2023, Stegall did not see game action but remained an integral part of the team, honing his skills for his breakout sophomore year.

Before DePaul, Stegall excelled at Woodward Academy, where he was a 2023 conference champion, a three-time regional champion, and a two-time All-Region team selection. He also earned a letter in football for one season.

On the club level, Stegall played for Southern Soccer Academy, achieving notable success as a two-time USL Academy champion and earning a spot in the 2023 MLS Next Playoff qualification, as well as a place on the National Academy Tournament Team.

DePaul Athletics Director DeWayne Peevy and men’s soccer head coach Mark Plotkin released a joint statement expressing their heartbreak:

We are heartbroken by the unexpected loss of Chase Stegall, a cherished member of our community, dedicated teammate, and kind-hearted friend. Our thoughts and prayers are with Chase’s family, friends, teammates, and all who loved him.
In the coming days, we will support Chase’s family and teammates through this devastating time. His loss will be deeply felt across our entire Athletics and university family, and his memory will forever be a part of DePaul University.

Details regarding a memorial service for Stegall will be shared when available, according to university officials.
