Diego Luna, a professional soccer player, has kept his personal life private but has a son, Manolo, born in 2024, with his girlfriend.
He has shared his experience of becoming a father, which has not only helped him improve his game but also his life beyond it.
Diego Angel Luna began his football career with the Palo Alto Soccer Club and joined the youth setup at Major League Soccer club San Jose Earthquakes in 2015.
Later, he joined the Barcelona Residency Academy, an Arizona-based academy affiliated with Spanish club Barcelona, in 2018.
On April 5, 2021, he signed a professional contract with USL Championship club El Paso Locomotive and made his debut against the New Mexico United on May 8.
Diego was transferred to Real Salt Lake in a USL record deal of $250,000 on June 2, 2022, and made an 88th-minute substitute against Vancouver Whitecaps.
Similarly, he was featured with the United States U-20 team that won the CONCACAF U-20 championship in 2022 and earned his first selection to the senior national team in January 2024.
He represented the United States in the 2025 CONCACAF Gold Cup and scored his first international goal for the senior team against Costa Rica in the quarter-finals.
A lot of ups and downs, but that’s soccer, right? I think the biggest thing is to stay mentally strong and stay positive through those tough times. Then, if it doesn’t go your way, it doesn’t but staying positive gives you the benefit of the doubt sometimes.

Diego Luna’s Son Is A Joyful New Chapter Of His Life
Diego Luna has embraced fatherhood, which is one of his most rewarding roles. In early 2024, Diego and his girlfriend welcomed their son, Manolo.
While the soccer player prefers to keep his personal life out of the spotlight, he has occasionally shared heartwarming glimpses of his journey as a dad on social media.
Since Manolo’s arrival, Diego has spoken about how fatherhood has given him more clarity and purpose, both on and off the field.
He has shown maturity beyond his years, balancing professional soccer with parenthood. He cherished the quiet moments with his son while continuing to shine for Real Salt Lake and the national team.
Although Diego keeps his relationship out of the tabloids, his love for his son is evident. He hasn’t opened up much about his girlfriend nor shared any pictures on social media.
He had hinted to his fans about his fatherhood in July 2023, and fans were eager for the next chapter in his career. They flooded his instagram post with congratulations comments.

Diego’s devotion to his family adds a deeper layer to his inspiring story, whether posting playful snapshots or reflecting on the joys of fatherhood.
Furthermore, he calls Manolo a mini version of himself and often takes him to the stadium to watch his games.
Having him, there’s a different motivation that I didn’t know that could that happen. When he was born, I think it was something like sort of, like a switch in me, where it kind of just changed everything in my life. Every little thing that I do is thinking about him.

I leave a lot into God’s hands. When things aren’t going my way, I kind of relax, I read the Bible, very religious in that way. I kind of just give my hope to God.
Diego Luna Has Been Open About His Mental Health
Diego Luna has been vocal about his mental health journey and has embraced therapy and creative outlets like art and soccer to stay grounded.
One of his most personal coping mechanisms is his tattoos, which are visible to the world.
Diego’s ink tells a story of personal growth, struggles, and love.
One of his most recognizable tattoos is the phrase “Why so serious?” on his arm, a playful yet meaningful nod to the Joker that symbolizes his choice to embrace life with authenticity and a sense of humor.
His tattoo journey began as a teenager when he was far from home and missing his family. The distance became especially painful when his brother welcomed his niece, the first member of the next generation in their family.
Later, he convinced his parents to sign off on his first tattoo, his niece’s birth date, to keep her close. What began as a sentimental gesture soon evolved into a therapeutic ritual.
He found that the process of getting tattooed, the hum of the needle, and the fleeting pain helped him process emotions like loneliness, anger, and stress.
It relaxes me. It kind of takes out all the anger and the emotions and the sadness and stuff in me, it kind of takes it out on the needle. As weird as it sounds, it works.

That’s something that I’ve used and it’s helped me. Whenever I’m feeling really down or really angry and stressful, sometimes I go get a nice little tattoo that might not have meaning. But in that moment it’s relieving everything from me and it’s helping me in a big way. Because then I feel free and I feel open and I leave that tattoo shop feeling like OK, I’m good.
Furthermore, Diego’s tattoos also serve as reminders of love and resilience.
On the field, whenever he scores a goal, he kisses two meaningful tattoos: his niece’s birth date and his mother’s name, Susana, inked on his wrist.
Nonetheless, the soccer player reminds us that healing comes in many forms, whether through therapy, creativity, or even the buzz of a tattoo needle.
