Dordt University Student-Athlete Liam Sorensen, 22, Dies In An Accident, Leaving Behind His Parents, Nikki And Chad!

Liam Sorensen, a 22-year-old student-athlete from Sioux Falls, South Dakota, tragically passed away in a car accident in early June 2025.

Authorities confirmed that he died at the scene, and while no other major injuries were reported, the crash remains under investigation.

He was a 2020 graduate of O’Gorman High School and a student at Dordt University, where he pursued a double major in Biology and Biomedical Engineering while playing football for the Dordt Defenders.

Liam Sorensen Balanced Both Sports And Academics Throughout His Life!

Sioux Falls, S.D. resident, Liam Sorensen, was a dedicated football player at Dordt University, where he played as an offensive lineman.

Over his time at Dordt, he played in nine games in the 2022 season, one game in 2021, and six games in 2020.

Standing 6’2″ and weighing 312 lbs, he was a key part of the team throughout his college career.

Before Dordt, Liam played for O’Gorman High School in South Dakota and earned two varsity letters.

Moreover, he played a crucial role in the Knights’ 2019 state championship victory in 11AAA and their 2018 Metro Conference title.

Also, during his high school, Sorensen was twice named Academic All-State in South Dakota.

This recognition highlights his dedication to both athletics and academics, making him a respected member of the university community.

Sorensen had a promising future in football, showing outstanding dedication and talent both on and off the field.

His sudden passing has deeply affected his family, the Dordt University community, and everyone who knew him.

Moreover, his well-wishers and loved ones shared heartfelt tributes, remembering him as a kind-hearted and hardworking individual.

Dordt University released a statement expressing sorrow over his loss, highlighting Liam as a valued member of their academic and spiritual community.

Likewise, his former coach shared a heartfelt tribute, saying:

Liam was everything we hope for in our young people—disciplined, compassionate, and always striving to make the world better. His loss is felt deeply in every corner of this community.

Sorensen is survived by his loving parents, Nikki and Chad Sorensen; his siblings, Lauren and Luke Sorensen; and his extended family.

His family has requested privacy as they navigate this difficult time, and a celebration of his life will be held in Sioux Falls in the coming days.
