Casey has always maintained his innocence and filed a $7 million lawsuit against the express-mail company and its employees. However, the NCAA later rescinded the penalty after it was shown that Casey wasn’t involved in sending the package.
The incident remains a major scar in Casey’s career and stunted his rapid rise as one of the prominent coaches in the NCAA in the 1980s.
