On the morning of May 6, 2025, the East Hall High School community lost a beloved teacher and coach, Victor Vega, in a tragic motorcycle accident at the age of 54.

Victor Vega is survived by his wife of 25 years, Bethany Hafner Vega, and their son, Miko Vega. He also leaves behind his mother, brother, Javier Vega, sister-in-law, Karina Vega, and another brother whose name unknown.

Bethany and Vega tied the knot on September 21, 1999.

The longtime married couple, Bethany and Victor, served in the United States Air Force.

After four years of marriage, they welcomed their son, Miko, in 2003. Their son, Miko, has also followed in his father’s footsteps into the sports world; Miko plays baseball.

The tight-knit Vega family of three had a sound life until Victor’s demise shattered it.

Bethany often shared moments of their blissful family life. If not, anyone could see their journey from their son’s first steps to his time as a baseball player through the photos she posted on Facebook; she’s captured everything along the way.

Even though she hasn’t spoken publicly about his heartbreaking passing, she changed her profile picture to a family photo with Vega and their son Miko, a quiet tribute to her grief.

The celebrated coach, Vega, of Gainesville, Georgia, died after a crash at the intersection of Old Cornelia Highway and Jesse Jewell Parkway, near Interstate 985.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, the accident happened around 7:45 a.m. Vega was riding his motorcycle east on Jesse Jewell Parkway when a 2007 Chevrolet Suburban, driven by 57-year-old Maria Escobedo of Gillsville, turned left in front of him.

The motorcycle hit the SUV’s front bumper, throwing Vega from the bike, and the SUV then ran over him. Vega was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center, where he passed away.

Born to parents Victor Ramon Vega and Luz Marla Santos, Victor Vega had been part of East Hall High School since 2022.

He was a business teacher and an assistant coach for the school’s baseball and softball teams.

He also advised the Future Business Leaders of America club. Before teaching, Vega served in the United States Air Force as part of the Security Forces.

Vega played college baseball at Park University in Missouri. He later worked with the Atlanta Braves to help develop young athletes.

The Hall County (Ga) School District just released the following statement on the sudden death of one of their beloved coaches and teachers, writing:

We are deeply saddened today by the loss of teacher and coach Victor Vega of East Hall High School.
Our prayers go out to the Vega family, the students and faculty at East Hall High School, and the East Hall Community.

Sarah Dinh, mother of one of Vega’s students, wrote on her Facebook:

My son had him as a teacher this year and would talk highly about him. One of his favorite teachers!! You could tell by the way my son talked about him that he was definitely a great teacher who loved what he did and who was loved by every student at the school. He is going to be greatly missed by so many. Just heartbreaking and sad. Rest in peace!!
