Ice Hockey Center Connor McDavid credits his parents for everything that he has achieved and is yet to achieve. Both of them had ties with the sport.
Connor McDavid was born on January 13, 1997, to parents Kelly and Brian, who have been nothing but extremely supportive of his career since day one.
In fact, former high school player himself and a lifelong Boston Bruins fan, Brian, introduced Connor to the sport at an early age.
By the time Connor was three, he was already skating circles around expectations.
Brian, who recognized his son’s extraordinary potential, constructed a backyard rink, turning their Newmarket home into a proving ground where Connor’s extraordinary talent first took flight.
On top of that, Connor McDavid’s father, Brian McDavid, was his first coach. Brian coached Connor during his early years in hockey, including his time with the York Simcoe Express, where Connor won four Ontario Minor Hockey Association championships.
While Brian laid the groundwork for Connor’s hockey career, Kelly McDavid provided the emotional backbone.
McDavid’s mother, Kelly, played one year of recreational ice hockey as a child before she transitioned her attention toward skiing.
Brian McDavid Overwhelmed with Emotion as Son Connor Reached 1,000 NHL Points!
The 28-year-old Connor McDavid achieved a historic milestone by reaching 1,000 career NHL points on November 14, 2024, between the Edmonton Oilers and the Nashville Predators at Rogers Place.
He became the 99th player in NHL history to reach this mark and did so in just 659 games. With this achievement, he became the fourth-fastest player ever to achieve this milestone, behind legends like Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, and Mike Bossy.
McDavid’s 1,000th point came during the second period when he scored a goal assisted by Leon Draisaitl and Darnell Nurse.
He later added his 1,001st point in overtime, helping the Oilers secure a 3-2 victory.
Brian, Connor McDavid’s father, who was present during the game, reflected on the moment after the milestone game with his voice thick with emotion, saying:
It’s been an amazing journey. I’m just so glad I was able to see it.
Overwhelmed with emotions, Brian told Sportsnet post-game:
I mean I was speechless, and as most people will tell you, I’m rarely speechless.
“I was overcome. I was quite emotional actually I had to choke back a little bit,” he added.
For a man who has seen every step of Connor’s growth from a six-year-old scoring 27 goals in a single game to the No. 1 overall pick in the 2015 NHL Draft, that achievement was surely worth watching.
Brian’s reaction wasn’t just about the numbers but the journey they’d shared. Connor said after the game, noting his dad’s trip:
I had to make it happen and make his trip worthwhile. Otherwise, it would have been a long flight home for him tomorrow.
