The professional basketball player Elena Delle Donne and her wife Amanda Clifton tied the knot in 2017 after four years of dating.

Elena Delle Donne is one of the most dominant players in the WNBA, playing for the Washington Mystics. She was born on September 5, 1989, in Wilmington, Delaware.

She currently plays alongside Natasha Cloud, Brittney Sykes, and Shakira Austin for the Washington Mystics.

As a high school basketball star at Ursuline Academy in Wilmington, Delle Donne led Ursuline to three straight Delaware State Championship titles.

Not only did she feature in McDonald’s All-American game, but Elena was also ranked as the number one overall high school recruit by Scout.com.

In 2007, the player participated in WBCA High School All-America Game and was also named a WBCA All-American.

She further showcased her athleticism by winning the volleyball DIAA state championship with Ursuline.

Delle Donne decided to play collegiate basketball at the University of Delaware in June 2009.

In addition, she won the gold medal with the USA’s women’s basketball team in the 2016 Olympics.

Amanda Clifton is the lovely wife of the WNBA star player Elena Donne. She became a topic of interest after it came out that she was in a relationship with a basketball player.

Elena Delle Donne met her wife, Clifton, through a mutual friend in 2013. Even though the pair shared photos online, it took years before she could confirm the relationship.

Based on a Vogue magazine article, the couple was engaged on June 2, 2016. Delle Donne and Clifton eventually tied the knot on November 3, 2017.

Amanda Clifton was born in Iowa, United States of America, to Eileen and Dennis Clifton.

She was born on May 22, 1989, and grew up in Illinois Rock Island with two siblings, Josh and Marcus.

Amanda attended Rock Island Alleman Catholic High School and enrolled at Illinois State University.

She reportedly works as a designer at Deldon Designs and as the Vice President of The Elena Delle Donne Charitable Foundation.

Besides that, Amanda served as a director of De11e Donne Academy, a basketball skills academy that organizes basketball events intending to create a fun environment for participants.

Special Olympics Global Ambassador

Delle Donne was named a Special Olympics Global Ambassador in February 2014. She has a special place in her heart for Special Olympics because her sister participated in the Motor Activity Training program.

Her older sister, Lizzie, was born deaf, blind, autistic, and also has cerebral palsy. 

Elena herself struggled in her childhood due to her unusual height, so much so that doctors wanted to start her on injections to stunt her growth.

Whether in her free time or at school at the University of Delaware, Elena has always dedicated her time to volunteering.

She witnessed the positive impact of inclusion on children and individuals with intellectual disabilities.

During NBA All-Star Weekend in New Orleans, the player participated in the 2014 NBA Cares Special Olympics Unified Basketball Games.

In addition, she served as Honorary Coach for the Special Olympics basketball team exhibition at the 2014 Big East Women’s Basketball Tournament.

The WNBA star looks forward to continuing to engage with Special Olympics while leading the efforts with the WNBA to help raise awareness for the sport of basketball within the Special Olympics.
