Born and raised in Camden, London, Emma attended Parliament Hill School, where she played soccer for her school team.

Emma Hayes was born to her parents, Sid and Miriam Hayes, on October 18, 1976, in Camden, London.
Growing up in a soccer-loving community in Camden, Emma started playing the game early, and she thanks her father, Sid, for playing a crucial role in shaping her sports career.
After her dream of becoming a pro athlete was cut short following an injury, Emma focused on academics and earned her undergraduate degree in 1999. She did her Master’s in Intelligence and International Affairs from Liverpool Hope University.
However, soccer was always a priority for her, so she began her coaching journey in 2001.
She stayed in the United States for around six years, coaching teams such as Iona Gaels until she assumed the post of assistant coach and academy director for Arsenal Ladies in 2006.
