The Thornton community is mourning the heartbreaking death of 16-year-old Maximus Munro, who tragically lost his life in a car accident on Saturday night.

His sudden passing has left family, friends, and classmates in deep shock as they remember a young man who lived life with passion, kindness, and determination.

Maximus’ sister, Shelby Crowder, shared her grief in an emotional post.

My little brother passed away in a car accident on Saturday. He was only 16 years old,” she wrote.

“When we see tragedies like this, no one thinks it would happen to their family, but it happened to mine. If you have a sibling, hug them extra tight for me. I would give anything to see my brother one more time.”

Shelby described their unique sibling bond, recalling cherished memories of growing up together.

Despite their age difference of 11 years, they remained inseparable. From helping change his diapers to watching him grow into a remarkable young man, Shelby admired her brother deeply.

He died at only 16 but he experienced a full life full of adventures,” she said.

“He flew a plane, got his scuba diving license, went indoor skydiving, rode dirt bikes, bought his own boat, worked hard, earned perfect grades, and always made people laugh. I am so proud of my little brother.”

Maximus had a deep love for cars, especially his project car—a BMW he was working hard to restore. Friends and family recalled how much pride he took in that project.

To honor his memory, his loved ones are collecting funds to finish restoring the car, something they believe would have meant the world to him.

His best friend, Odin Zimmerman, launched a GoFundMe to support the effort.

Max had just become a Junior in high school, and it is crazy how it can all happen in the blink of an eye,” Odin shared.

“He had a bright, long future in front of him. This car will be returned to his family, and we hope it gives them some comfort knowing how much people cared about him.”

GoFundMe

Family and friends describe Maximus as adventurous, hardworking, and full of gratitude.

He balanced school, work, and hobbies while touching countless lives with his humor and appreciation for others.

His death is not only a devastating loss to his family but also to the entire community that saw so much promise in his future.

A memorial service for Maximus will take place on Saturday, August 23rd, at 10 AM at Life Church in Thornton.

The family has invited all who knew and loved him to attend, celebrate his life, and say their final goodbyes.

As Shelby expressed, the tragedy is a reminder of how fragile life can be.
