PGA Tour golfer Erik Compton was arrested on both felony and misdemeanor charges during the weekend.
He was accused of domestic violence towards his wife at their residence in southwest Miami-Dade.
Erik Harald Høie Compton, born on November 11, 1979, is a professional golfer with dual Norwegian and American citizenship.
He was born in Miami, Florida, to a Norwegian mother and an American father.
Compton pursued his education at the University of Georgia and was a part of the 2001 Palmer Cup and Walker Cup teams during his college years.
Moreover, he has faced two heart transplant surgeries in his life. His initial transplant at the age of 12, stemming from viral cardiomyopathy, terminated his once-promising baseball career.
Despite this setback, he pursued golf, attending the University of Georgia before turning professional.
In 2007, he suffered a heart attack but survived after undergoing surgery and waited six months for a heart transplant.
Thankfully, Erik’s golf skills continued to improve following his second transplant.
What Really Happened? Everything About The Incident
The incident occurred shortly after 9:30 PM on Saturday at their home in the Glenvar Heights area, specifically in the 6800 block of Southwest 70th Avenue.
According to a Miami-Dade Police Department arrest report, a verbal dispute between Compton and his wife about “relationship issues” escalated when she began recording the argument with her cellphone.
Allegedly, Erik forcibly took the phone from his wife and threw it into their pool. He then grabbed her by the shoulders and forcefully pushed her against a wall, resulting in minor bruises on her left arm.
After this altercation, his wife left the premises, drove to a friend’s house, and contacted the police.
Compton exercised his right to have an attorney present and opted not to provide a statement to the police regarding the incident.
The professional golfer was taken into custody, facing charges of strong-armed robbery, classified as a second-degree felony, and a misdemeanor battery charge.
Furthermore, Compton was detained at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, only to be released later on bond.
