The Escambia County education community is mourning the loss of Donnie Faulk, a longtime teacher and coach who passed away following a courageous battle with ALS.
He was a dedicated faculty member at Escambia County Middle School and left an indelible impact on countless students, colleagues, and friends.
Donnie Faulk spent much of his professional life shaping young minds at the Escambia County Board of Education.
A proud graduate of Livingston University with a Bachelor of Science degree, he began his academic journey at Monroe County High School before eventually making his home in Atmore, Alabama.
Known for his deep roots in Monroeville and Atmore, Faulk was more than an educator—he was a mentor, a coach, and a source of laughter and encouragement.
His daughter, McKenzie Faulk, shared a heartfelt tribute reflecting on their relationship and the depth of his character.
“Our relationship wasn’t always easy but one thing never changed: the love I had for him, and the love I know he had for me.”

Diagnosed with ALS less than a year ago, Donnie faced his illness with unwavering courage and compassion, continuing to check in on his loved ones despite his own challenges.
“He still called. He still texted. He still asked how my week was going.”

McKenzie recalled the warmth and humor that defined her father—his quirky jokes, the goofy emojis, and the silly songs he made up to make her laugh.
“We didn’t always get it right, but we always loved each other,” she said, holding onto the peace that came from knowing he was ready—ready to be free from pain and “walk into the arms of Jesus.”
Donnie’s legacy extended beyond his family. Levon Wright III, a longtime friend and colleague, remembered Faulk as someone with a rare gift for connection.
“His ability to connect with every student and give each one a special nickname was truly remarkable,” Wright shared.
That personal touch made Faulk unforgettable to the many lives he touched in the classroom and on the field.
Monroe Academy alumni also mourned his loss. Jess Nicholas described Faulk as a good friend and noted the absence his passing has left in the community.
Though details about memorial arrangements remain limited, the outpouring of tributes across social media reflects the deep void his departure has created.
Escambia County Middle School released an official statement saying,
“It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Coach Donnie Faulk. He was a beloved faculty member at Escambia County Middle School for many years. Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers.”
