Ethan Hakes, a sports enthusiast, passed away at the age of 26 on Wednesday, October 15, 2025. He loved basketball and always looked for the next game to play in.

He left behind cherished memories and had been living on the streets for over two and a half years.

Ethan was a young man full of energy and passion.

He was often found with a basketball in his hand and always looked for the next game to join in. His love for sports extended beyond the court to fishing trips, wrestling, and seeking out new adventures.

Besides outdoor adventure, Ethan was an avid video game player who enjoyed the challenges and stories they offered.

He began a new chapter in his life on November 10, 2019, joining the team at the Cracker Barrel Old Country Store.

He is remembered as a spirited individual who embraced both the thrill of competition and the comfort of community.

Ethan Hakes’s Family Mourns the Tragic Loss

Ethan Alan Hakes, the son of Terri Y. Stutts and Bruce Hakes, was born on January 6, 1999, in Billings, Montana.

His parents are divorced, and he was raised in a close-knit family alongside his brother, Timothy Simmons.

Ethan passed away on October 15, 2025.

He was living on the streets for over two and a half years, and his body was discovered in October in Largo, Florida. He was placed on the Bibb County missing persons list.

He had been a wanderer and travelled to different places, including Georgia, Tennessee, Savannah, and Hinesville.

Terri talked with him for the last time on February 26 at 9:12 a.m. for 7 minutes. Her youngest son used to call her on the first of the month so she could tell him how much money she would be sending him that month.

Ethan leaves behind a legacy of love and a family who will always cherish his memory.

He is survived by his mother, Terri Y. (Hakes) Stutts; his father, Bruce Hakes; his brother, Timothy Simmons; and his son, Andrew Joseph Hakes.

He also held a special place in the hearts of his loving ex-wife, Kara Hakes, who has been a tremendous blessing, and his special friends, Riley Stinnett, Jacob Sneed, and Bernard Rose.

Similarly, his host of aunts and uncles, Valerie Westgate, Penny Chamness, Faron Stutts, Vernon Hakes, Sandra Jones, Timothy Stutts, Vernon Stutts, Jacqueline Filer, Melody Lopez, and Dawn Davison, will fondly remember him.

On the other hand, he was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Charles and Lucille Stutts; paternal grandparents, Roy and Dixie Hakes; and special uncle and wrestling buddy, Kelly Stutts, who passed away in 2021.

Nonetheless, A Graveside service to honor and celebrate Ethan’s life will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, October 27, 2025, in the Meigs County Memorial Gardens.

Instead of flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations be made to the Decatur Funeral Home to help ease the financial burden on his mother during this difficult time.

They would like to extend a special thank you to everyone who prayed with and for the family during the past few years for Ethan’s safety and soul.
