Luis Ernesto Sharpe Jr. was celebrated as one of the most consistent and talented offensive tackles in the NFL during his 13-year career.

Born in Havana, Cuba, Sharpe moved to Detroit, Michigan, as a child and later played college football at UCLA.

His skills on the field earned him a first-round selection in the 1982 NFL Draft by the St. Louis Cardinals.

Throughout his career, Sharpe became a three-time Pro Bowl selection and a key figure during the Cardinals’ transition from St. Louis to Arizona.

Known for his durability, he started all 189 games in which he played.

While he faced personal struggles with substance abuse during and after his playing days, Sharpe ultimately found sobriety and stability later in life. Sadly, he passed away from heart failure on July 11, 2025, at the age of 65.
