Ex-MLB player Dan Serafini’s wife, Erin Serafini, testified in his trial over the murder of her parents in 2024.
Erin Serafini, the wife of former Minnesota Twins pitcher Dan Serafini, has been in the spotlight due to her husband’s high-profile murder case.
Dan Serafini met Erin, an equestrian, in the early 2000s. The couple married in 2007 and built a life together in Nevada.
They raised their two children, a son and a daughter, with Erin’s parents helping financially to cover expenses like daycare, private schools, and baby supplies.
However, their marriage faced challenges after he was accused of planning the murder of his father-in-law and the attempted murder of his mother-in-law.
In June 2021, a tragic shooting at Erin’s parents’ Lake Tahoe home left her father, Robert Gary Spohr, dead and her mother, Wendy Wood, injured, suffering gunshot wounds to the head and wrist.
Later, Dan Serafini and Samantha Scott, the former nanny, were arrested in October 2021 and charged with murder and attempted murder.
Prosecutors argue that Dan shot his in-laws, with Scott as an accomplice, possibly motivated by financial disputes or personal grudges.

In 2024, Serafini’s wife, Erin Serafini, became a key figure when she testified during the preliminary hearing in Roseville on May 7-9, 2024.
During the testimony, Erin firmly stated she didn’t believe Dan or Samantha Scott were involved in the shooting. She told the court, “I would never think she or my husband would have anything to do with this.“
Erin reviewed footage of a masked suspect entering her parents’ home and said it wasn’t Dan, claiming the suspect was “much bigger” than her husband.
Likewise, she also described her relationship with her parents as “complex.” She admitted to arguments like one over expensive baby formula during the pandemic, but denied ever wanting them harmed.
Erin also confirmed her parents provided significant financial help, including $1 million for their Reno home, a $55,000 car for Dan, and a $90,000 check from her mother on the day of the shooting.
She also revealed that Dan signed a post-nuptial agreement giving up any claim to her parents’ inheritance, suggesting he had no financial reason to commit the crime.
Amid this accusation, authorities identified Samantha Scott as Serafini’s alleged romantic partner and accomplice.
Court documents revealed that Serafini and nanny Scott had a “flirtatious, romantic relationship.”
Later, on February 6, 2025, Scott, testifying against Serafini, admitted to her role in the crime.
Likewise, she even admitted to spending the night before the murder with him at a casino hotel in Elko, Nevada, where they had a lengthy drinking session.
The latest testimony session took place on May 9, 2025, and the trial proceedings are ongoing.
