Ex-NFL Linebacker Kroy Biermann’s Divorce Strains Bond With Ariana, Once His Best Friend, As Tension Surfaces In ‘Next Gen NYC’

RHOA star Kim Zolciak and former Atlanta Falcons football player Kroy Biermann’s marriage has come to an emotional and public end after over a decade together.

Their relationship, which began in 2011, started to deteriorate in 2023, with financial problems and personal issues creating tension between them.

Although they briefly tried to reconcile, Kroy filed for divorce again in August 2023, saying their marriage could not be saved.

Before the split, there were already signs of serious financial trouble. Kroy later claimed that Kim’s alleged online gambling had caused massive debt, reportedly losing around $1.5 million.

Downfall Of Biermann’s Family Following The Abrupt Divorce For Years

Their fights became so intense that police were called to their home multiple times.

In one incident, one of their children told officers it looked like Kroy had pushed Kim during an argument.

Kroy also reportedly became aggressive with police when they tried to ask what started the fight.

The divorce has had a big impact on their family.

Kim and Kroy share four children — Kroy Jr. (KJ), Kash, and twins Kaia and Kane, and Kroy also adopted Kim’s daughters from previous relationships, Brielle and Ariana.

Ariana has spoken out, saying that her relationship with Kroy, who was once like a best friend, has undergone significant changes due to the ongoing tension.

“Growing up, he really was my best friend, more than my mom was for a while. We’re definitely not as close as we used to be, and I don’t really talk to him very often just because of this tough situation that we’re in. But I really do try to keep the divorce and my relationship with him and my mom separate. It just gets hard at times.”

So, in June 2025, Ariana Biermann is stepping back into the spotlight with Bravo’s new reality series Next Gen NYC, and unlike her earlier years on TV with her close-knit family, she’s now adjusting to life after her parents’ divorce.

Furthermore, Kim has been fighting for primary custody of the younger kids and is asking for child support, alimony, and help with expenses, as she says she still depends on Kroy financially.

Kroy, once a linebacker in the NFL, has since started a new job in construction management with a rigging and erection company.

Kim, now staying in Georgia with the younger children, used her time filming The Surreal Life as a way to take a break and reflect.

She said it gave her a chance to step away from the stress at home and focus on herself, though being away from her kids wasn’t easy.

They’ve been through a lot together, and it’s not been easy on either of them or their children.
