Ex-Princess Anne HS Swimmer And Hockey Player Shannon Lonergan Dies Untimely At 27, Leaving Her Little Kids Dakota And Carter Behind

Shannon Lonergan, a devoted mother of two toddlers, a former athlete who competed in swimming and field hockey at the state level from Princess Anne High School’s IB Program, lost her life on 28 April.

Kim Owens shared that Shannon Lonergan, 27, was a close friend of her daughter Cassie, during both middle school and high school.

She encouraged others to consider making a donation if they are able, or to simply keep Shannon’s family in their thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.

Family And Friends Mourn The Loss Of Shannon Lonergan

She leaves behind two beautiful young children: Dakota Mary, who is just three and a half years old, and Carter James, who is only five months old.

Her love for her children was clear to everyone who knew her. Her social media pages were filled with photos and memories of her two little ones, Dakota and Carter.

To honor Shannon Lonergan’s love for her two children, Lexi Rector has set up a GoFundMe to help support Dakota and Carter’s education in the years ahead.

Her loss is deeply felt not only by her children but also by a large and loving family.

Her father, J.B., survives her, as do her siblings Randi, Erika, Leah, and James, as well as countless extended family members and friends who cherished her.

The community will gather to mourn and honor Shannon’s life. Visitation with the family will take place on Sunday, May 4th, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at H.D. Oliver (2002 Laskin Rd), and a funeral mass will be held at Star of the Sea Church on Monday, May 5th, at 10 a.m.

She served as an Ocean Rescue Lifeguard with the Virginia Beach Lifesaving Service for over eight years.

In 2019, she became an Associate Sales Representative at Prevail Medical, Inc.

Before that, she worked as a server at Green’s Sushi Bar and Grill in Blacksburg and as a hostess at One Fish Two Fish in Virginia Beach.

  • Lonergan was added to the Princess Anne varsity field hockey roster for the 2014 and 2015 seasons.
  • During a 6-0 victory over George Marshall High School, Lonergan scored two goals. Her first goal came less than four minutes into the game.
