Ezra Mam is an Australian professional rugby league footballer who plays for the Brisbane Broncos in the NRL. He was born in Sydney to a family of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander descendants from Far North Queensland.

Following his birth, Mam’s family moved to Queensland, where he started his junior rugby league with Goodna Eagles in Ipswich.

The Rookie of the Year winner in the 2021 Intrust Super Cup season finished the season with 13 tries, eight try assists, and seven goals for the Souths Logan Magpies in just 11 games.

In the 2022 NRL season, Mam made his first-grade debut for Brisbane in round 11, setting up two tries in a 36-12 win against Newcastle.

Furthermore, in the following round, the halfback scored his first try against the Gold Coast Titans in a 35-24 win. Additionally, after playing 13 games in the season, Mam scored six tries and helped Brisbane clinch the 9th place in the 2022 season.

In the 2023 NRL season, Mam played in 25 games, scoring 18 tries. However, his second-half hat-trick couldn’t help Brisbane with the 2023 NRL Grand Final as they suffered a 26-24 loss against Penrith.

Ezra Mam is the son of supportive parents, Tomasina and Mukubi Mam. The Mams are part of the Kuku Yalanji people, and their descendants hail from Far North Queensland.

Going further back, Mam’s dream of playing in the NRL stems from his grandparents, Steve and Pamela Mam.

Unfortunately, Mam’s grandparents passed away before he could start his career in the National Rugby League. Still, he believes they would be proud of him and support him throughout his journey.

In an interview, Mam expressed gratitude to his parents and grandparents, who played a significant role in his rugby journey.

According to reports, Tomasina and Mtukubi live on Hammond (Keriri) Island, a boat ride away from Torres Strait in North Australia.

Mukubi, Mam’s father, is a member of an Indigenous dance group that his parents started. Furthermore, he is a driver for the Indigenous Health Clinic in Logan.

Mam’s mother, Tomasina, prefers to keep her life private, so there is not much information on her education and profession.

However, Mam did thank his loving mother for her continuous support on his journey to be a footballing star.

Mam had powerful influences from his parents and grandparents from early life. Consequently, he and his family are still very much culturally oriented.

Only a few years ago, the Broncos halfback was performing at half-time in an NRL match at the Suncorp Stadium during a Storm-Broncos match.

Besides playing as the halfback for the Broncos, Mam also enjoys playing the role of Broncos Indigenous ambassador for the Deadly Choices program.
