Fargo, North Dakota Community Mourns Longtime Landon’s Light Foundation Golf Tournament Director and Youth Baseball Coach Matt Ellison, 51, Survived by Wife Stefanie and Two Children

The Fargo, North Dakota, community is mourning the untimely death of beloved native and avid golfer Matt Ellison.

Matt Ellison passed away on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at the age of 51; however, details surrounding his untimely death have not yet been disclosed by the family.

Born on June 6, 1974, in Fargo, North Dakota, Matt Ellison was a cherished member of the sports community and an avid golfer and coach.

He was serving as the Golf Tournament Director of Landon’s Light Foundation, a non-profit organization that helps children battling serious medical illnesses.

Joining the foundation as Golf Tournament Director in 2019, Matt planned, organized, and directed the annual charity golf tournament with 36 teams/144 players for over six years.

In addition to being an avid golfer, Matt Ellison also touched the lives of many athletes, serving as a youth baseball coach at West Fargo Baseball Inc. and a Youth Hockey Coach at West Fargo Stampede.

Late Matt Ellison Excelled in His Decades-Long Career in Accounting and The Sales Field

Matt Ellison was not just known for his journey as a golfer and coach but also for his decades-long career in the accounting and marketing fields.

From 2020 until his recent passing, Matt was serving as an advertising account executive at Newman Outdoor in Fargo, North Dakota.

Prior to that, he served as a sales account executive at Northern Plains Label for a year and a Marketing Consultant at Radio FM Media for nearly a year.

Matt also served as a field account representative at Grainger for nearly a year, sales manager at Addem Inc. for four years, and advertising consultant at Forum Communications Co.

Likewise, Matt Ellison earned his high school degree from West Fargo High School and a BBA in major marketing and minor sport from the University of North Dakota.

The untimely death of Matt Ellison has left a profound void in the lives of his family, friends, and loved ones.

Many of his loved ones are paying tribute to the late Matt Ellison and extending their heartfelt condolences to his family during this difficult time.

One wrote:

Matt is survived by his longtime wife, Stefanie Gefroh Ellison, son, daughter, and the entire family.

While Stefanie hasn’t shared any statement regarding the untimely passing of her longtime husband, she often shares Matt Ellison’s pictures on social media, expressing her love and pride.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 12, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM and on Saturday, December 13, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Hope Lutheran Church, Fargo, South Campus, 3636 25th St. S., Fargo, North Dakota.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at 11 AM at Hope Lutheran Church in Fargo.

Matt Ellison’s contribution to the Fargo, North Dakota, community as a coach, golfer, and a kind person will always remain in the hearts of his loved ones.
