The Head coach of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign football team, Bret Bielema, has been married to Jennifer Hielsberg for over a decade.
Their love story began in Las Vegas when they met at Wynn Casino in Las Vegas, where she was in Vegas with her best friend and her best friend’s boyfriend.
As cliched as it sounds, Bret and Jennifer just hit off from there in nearly no time.
Born and brought up in Tampa, Florida, Jennifer found Bret’s background in Wisconsin interesting as her family has ties with the state.
Their first conversation lit a flame of friendship that blossomed into a lifelong relationship.
Bret and Jennifer walked down the aisle on March 10, 2012. They’ve been married for 14 years.
They are proud parents of two daughters: Briella Nichola, born on July 8, 2017, and Brexli Nichole, born in March 2019.
Jennifer has often shared moments of their family life on social media, which speaks volumes about their bond.
The Bielema Family Endured Major Losses in Late 2022 With the Passing of Jennifer’s Father and Bret’s Mother Within a Week!
Jennifer was born in 1985 to parents Diana Cops-Hielsberg and Gregory Robert Hielsberg and raised with her brother Matthew.
She has a degree in psychology from the University of Wisconsin.
The details of her earlier life are pretty low; however, she has revealed being very close to her father, who died in November 2022.
Most notably, she often devoted sincere tributes to her dad on social media to reveal her strong family connections.
Through Bret’s coaching career years, from times at different universities to the NFL, Jennifer has been a constant support system.
Jennifer has adjusted to numerous relocations and has taken on her role within the community Bret is part of with gusto.

In interviews, Bret has referred to Jennifer as “the best South Florida recruit ever,” speaking highly of their strong relationship built on mutual respect and love, saying:
“She is the best south Florida recruit ever. She is out of Tampa. I had to go out of state to get her.”

The Bielema family faced challenges when they lost Marilyn Bielema, Bret’s mother, within a week after Greg Hielsberg, Jennifer’s father, passed away in late 2022.
Jennifer took to her Instagram to share a carousel of photos of her wedding day dancing with her father. In the post, she penned a lengthy caption about missing her dad, writing:
Happy 1st Heavenly Birthday, Dad! It’s been 9 months and 5 days, and although my heart still hurts, I talk about you often and smile. I think about you hundreds of times each day. My girls always ask about you, and they remind me you’re in heaven with the angels.
“I miss our daily conversations, especially each morning. I miss your laugh, your smile, your hugs, and your long stories — everything. You were my hero and now you’re my Angel. I love you, always. 🤍,” Jennifer added in the caption.
This was a tough time for the family as they handled their grief while keeping their commitments.
Despite these difficulties, they enjoy their family moments and celebrate milestones together.
