Steve Toyloy’s Basketball Journey From Miami Dade College To The University of Cincinnati and Beyond!

Steve had a notable basketball career. He began his collegiate basketball journey at Miami Dade College, where he developed his skills as a formidable center.

He also led the JUCO level in rebounding as a freshman and averaged a double-double as a sophomore.

Then, in 2008, Toyloy transferred to the University of Cincinnati and played for the Bearcats under head coach Mick Cronin from 2008 to 2010.

Toyloy appeared in 67 games during his tenure, starting 29 of them. During his college career, he averaged 3.6 points and 3.5 rebounds per game.

After graduating, Toyloy pursued professional basketball opportunities overseas, where he signed up with Istanbulspor in Turkey.

Additionally, he played in Brazil, where he left a significant impact on his teammates and fans.

He continued his career in Uruguay and played for various teams. In 2019, he was named the MVP of the Malaysian Professional League (MPL) Finals, leading Farmcochem to consecutive championships.

Following the announcement, tributes poured in from former teammates, coaches, and fans.

Cincinnati basketball mourns the loss of Steve Toyloy, a Bearcat from 2008 to 2010. Our thoughts are with Steve’s family, teammates, and all who knew him.

Former Bearcat Alex Meacham shared his condolences on X, simply writing, “RIP Steve Toyloy.”

Another Cincinnati alum, Corie Blount, asked fans to show their respect and wrote, “One of ours! Please show your respect!”

His passing is a significant loss to the basketball community. His contributions on and off the court will be remembered by many.
