The Burlington community is coming together in a powerful show of love and support for Peyton Matta, a 2024 graduate of Burlington High School and a standout baseball player, who recently experienced a life-altering accident.

On July 5, 2025, Peyton was involved in a serious single-car accident that resulted in the amputation of both of his lower legs.

Just 19 years old, Peyton now faces an unimaginable journey, one that will test his strength and courage like never before.

Despite the severity of his injuries, Peyton has already begun rehabilitation, demonstrating an unbreakable spirit and determination to rebuild his life.

A family friend described him as “an absolute fighter,” adding,

“He’s working tirelessly to get stronger each day, and his resilience truly is an inspiration to everyone who has the pleasure of knowing him.”

GoFundMe Has Been Organized To Help The Family

The Matta family, known for their kindness, generosity, and involvement in the Burlington community, is now facing the toughest chapter of their lives.

In response, friends, neighbors, and strangers alike have stepped up in a big way.

A GoFundMe campaign has already raised over $21,000 of its $25,000 goal, as donations pour in to help cover the extensive medical and personal expenses Peyton and his family now face.

The fundraiser outlines the immense needs ahead, including specialized prosthetics to help Peyton regain mobility and independence, and home renovations for accessibility, such as ramps and modified bathrooms.

Moreover, it will also cover ongoing rehabilitation and therapy that are not fully covered by insurance.

The campaign reads,

“The Matta family, known to so many of us for their incredible generosity, warmth, and unwavering love, is facing an unimaginable challenge right now. Let’s show the Mattas how much we care.”
