Former DeKalb High School Graduate Jerry Lee Singleton, 70, Passes Away Leaving His Wife, And Three Children

Jerry Lee Singleton, a 1974 graduate of DeKalb High School, where he was a standout athlete, has passed away at 70.

Singleton was born on April 29, 1956, in Auburn to Lavon Doris (Groff) Singleton.

He played Basketball and Track & Field at DeKalb High School. He earned all-conference honors in basketball and specialized in the shot put and discus throw, setting a school record.

Jerry was a lifelong athlete after high school, playing volleyball, golf, softball, badminton, and cornhole.

He was the Director of Environmental Services at DeKalb Memorial / Parkview DeKalb Hospital in Auburn.

Singleton served the hospital for 40 years before retiring in 2021.

He also served as a coach for several Garrett Railroader varsity athletic teams, including softball, girls’ basketball, and boys’ basketball.

Community Is Mourning The Tragic Death Of Jerry Lee Singleton

The sources confirmed that Jerry Lee Singleton of Auburn passed away on Monday, May 11, 2026, at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne.

However, the cause of death has not been revealed yet.

Several close ones and relatives have offered their heartfelt condolences and sent prayers to Jerry’s family to stay strong in this difficult time.

As per Jerry’s family, Services will be 11 AM Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 1860 Center Street, Auburn, IN.

Calling is on Monday from 2 to 7 PM at the funeral home.

Memorials can be given in memory of Jerry to Indiana Donor Network or the DeLakb County Humane Shelter.

Jerry Is Survived By His Wife, Beth, And Three Children

Jerry Lee Singleton married Beth Penland on July 26, 1980, in Auburn.

Sadly, their married life ended after 45 years following the tragic death of Jerry.

They were blessed with two daughters, Natalie and Kelly, and one son, Matthew Singleton of Cincinnati, Ohio.

He is also survived by two sisters: Deb Howey, Linda McKean of Auburn.

Jerry was preceded in death by his father, father-in-law, Harvey Penland, mother-in-law Barb Penland, and brother-in-law, Pat Penland.
