He said the president “broke the system” and extinguished whatever trust remained in the media before he took over the Republican Party in 2016.

Bret Baier’s father, William J. Baier, aka Bill, was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and was the son of William and Irene (Bencho) Baier.
He graduated from DePauw University in Greencastle, IN, where he played football. Sadly, a knee injury ended his career.
Bill worked at Sun Oil Co. before becoming an entrepreneur, starting his own business, Sunrise Oil & Chemical, in 1982.
His work ethic motivated his son, Bret, to start a grass-cutting business as a teenager.
Bret shared a close bond with his father. On June 21, 2015, Bret took to his official Twitter handle and wished Bill a happy Father’s Day. He wrote,
Happy Father’s Day to all Dads! To my Dad, Bill, & my Father-in-Law, Paul. We’re blessed -My boys made me breakfast

Tragically, Bill took his last breath on Monday, September 14, 2020, after a battle with cancer.
Bret took to his official Instagram handle to announce the tragic news. He wrote,
After beating cancer once-my Dad sadly lost his long battle yesterday. Fortunately, the family & I got to say goodbye a few days ago. It went very fast which actually was a blessing. 🙏 #RIP Dad.

The family conducted a private service and asked that, instead of flowers, a donation be made in Bill’s name to the First Tee of the Lowcountry, which supports the game he loved for so many years.

Bret Baier’s mother, Patricia Baier, started her career as a flight attendant and became a travel agent.
Patricia’s LinkedIn handle says she lives in Naples, Florida, United States.
She served as the director of estate planning at the American Cancer Society for over 10 years and 11 months.

Bret also shared a close bond with his mother. On August 10, 2015, Bret took to his official Twitter handle and wished Patricia a happy birthday by stating,

In addition, Bret had a stepmother, Virginia “Gini” Baier, a gymnast who won many state awards and competed for a spot on the Olympic Gymnastics team.
Tragically, Virginia passed away on Tuesday, August 18, 2015.

- Bret’s brother, Tim Baier, is a former sports anchor and is the CEO and co-founder of Spiracle Media, a video content agency based in Charlotte, NC.
- Baier and his wife Amy have two sons, Daniel and Paul. Paul was born with a cardiac problem, and before the child’s open-heart surgery in 2008, President George W. Bush invited Bret and his wife and son to the Oval Office for a visit and had the White House physician update him on Paul’s progress.
- Bret has played golf with Donald Trump and has been Trump’s guest at his Mar-a-Lago resort.
