Former HS Swimmer Clay Sydney Taylor, 58, Passes Away Leaving His Wife Wendy Behind!

Clay Sydney Taylor, a dedicated athlete and man of many talents, passed away on March 8, 2025, at his residence at the age of 58.

Clay was born on May 1, 1966, in Raleigh, North Carolina, to parents Royce Donald and Susan Ercell (Turner) Taylor.

He was a competitive swimmer in high school and later pursued a variety of interests.

Clay Sydney Taylor Is Survived By His Parents, Wife, And Children!

Clay Sydney Taylor was married to Wendy Rosenbek. They met while working together in Knoxville and started dating in 1988.

They moved to Colorado and got married in 1991. Together, the pair have only child, Bryce, who was born in Boulder in 1992.

Clay found a job baking at night to ensure full-time care for Bryce and avoid the need for outside childcare. This allowed him to be home during the day while Wendy worked.

His life was marked by his generosity, kindness, and ready smile. After moving back to Tennessee, he worked in various roles, including as a baker, carpenter, remodeler, and accountant for his wife’s veterinary practice.

During that time, he joined MTSU and earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting.

Clay Sydney Taylor had a diverse career journey. Being a tireless athlete, Clay loved swimming and biking from a young age.

In high school, he started his journey as a competitive swimmer. He used his bike to get around while growing up near Murfreesboro. Later on, he transitioned to triathlon and competitive cycling.

Additionally, he was known for his tireless energy and willingness to help anyone in need.

His parents survived him, along with his wife, Wendy, their child, Bryce, and several other family members.

He was preceded by his paternal grandparents, James Wilkie and Mary Elizabeth (Steagall) Taylor, and his maternal grandparents, Willis S. and Dorothy Leigh (Hawkins) Taylor.

He is remembered fondly by his family, friends, and community for his contributions and the positive impact he had on those around him.

One of his neighbours said:

Clay was an amazing neighbor and friend. He loved seeing Emily & Addyson, they would ride the 4 wheeler up to see him and Wendy. We’re going to miss the small talks. We’re going to miss you.
