Former Ligonier HS Athlete Robert F. Weller, 90, Passes Away, Leaving Behind His Wife Susan M. Bard And Their Kids

Former Bald Eagles football coach Robert F. “Bob” Weller of Mill Hall died peacefully on Tuesday.

Born on December 9, 1934, in Ligonier to his father Franklin and his mother Helen Keeno Weller, Robert played football and received his Bachelor’s degree from Slippery Rock University.

Later, he received his Master’s degree from West Virginia University.

Robert started his career as a high school teacher in West Virginia before taking a position at Slippery Rock University.

In 1967, he was hired as a professor at Lock Haven University. He served as head football coach for the Bald Eagles and was the golf coach from 1969 to 1975.

Robert was also a member of the LHU Gray Eagles Football Club and served as a PIAA football and basketball official for many years.

He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps Reserves and served briefly before being Honorably Discharged under medical conditions.

Robert F. “Bob” Weller took his last breath on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at 90. However, the cause of death has not been revealed yet.

Closed ones and relatives have poured their heartfelt condolences and sent prayers to Robert’s family to stay strong in this challenging moment.

Weller will always be remembered for his unforgettable contributions as an athlete and coach.

According to Robert’s family, a memorial service will be held on Monday, April 21, 2025, at 6 p.m. at the Donald G. Walker Funeral Home, Inc., 231 High St., Flemington, PA 17745, with Rev Susan Champion officiating.

Friends and family will be received at the funeral home on Monday from 4 p.m. until the time of the service.

Robert F. “Bob” Weller Is Survived By His Wife, Susan M. Bard, And Two Children

Robert F. “Bob” Weller married Susan M. Bard in Chambersburg on March 18, 1978. Sadly, their married life ended after 47 years following the tragic death of Robert.

Susan was born to her father, Harold Bard Jr, and her mother, Ruth Anna Failor. She grew up with her brother, H. Mark Bard.

Sadly, Susan’s father, Harold, born on March 9, 1926, passed away on March 8, 2014, at Chambersburg Hospital at 87.

A memorial service was held on Thursday, March 13, 2014, at St. John’s United Church of Christ, with Rev. Mark Ruzicka officiating.

Susan and Robert were blessed with two children, Jennie Hercules of West Virginia and Jeff Weller.

Jeff lives in Ohio with his wife, Tina Weller.
