A sports enthusiast from Rolla, Missouri, Paul “Shag” Jackson Spencer, passed away peacefully, leaving behind his wife and children.
Shag enjoyed sports throughout his life. Whether it was baseball, football, church softball, or bowling, he rarely missed a chance to play or cheer on a team.
He enjoyed the friendships and fun that came with every game, and he loved being part of something that brought people together.
Rolla, Missouri, Community Mourns the Loss of Paul “Shag” Jackson Specer
Born on March 15, 1936, in Maries County, Paul was the son of Emmett and Lucy Spencer. Paul passed away on December 2, 2025.
While he was not a professional athlete, he did play in multiple local leagues and church games.
For 33 years, Shag worked at Holsum Bakery. He took pride in his job and supported his coworkers as the union steward for the Bakery and Confectionery Union.
When the bakery closed, he decided to build something of his own. He started Paul Spencer Trucking, which he ran with hard work and dedication.
Now that he has left the world peacefully, many people remember him for his kindness and friendly nature.
To his family and friends, Shag was lovingly known as the candy man because he always carried sweets in his pockets.
He enjoyed giving treats to his grandchildren, friends, or anyone who needed a little happiness.
While the family members of Paul have not given any statement regarding his death, Null & Son Funeral Home commented on his passing via its Facebook page.

Paul is now survived by his wife, Adra, his childrens, David and Tracy, his brother, Archie, and his sisters, Mary Sue and Linda.
Now the community mourns Paul’s death. His family has arranged the services, which will be held on Saturday, December 6, at St. John Lutheran Church (229 W James Blvd, St. James, MO 65559).
The visitation will begin at 10:00 am, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 am.
Interment will take place at Ozark Hills Memorial Gardens Cemetery (12110 S Bishop Ave, Rolla, MO 65401) immediately following the service.
