Mullin ISD responded swiftly to allegations before the arrest of former teacher Lily Janek. She was released on a $50,000 bond following the indictment.
Brownwood police arrested 25-year-old Lily Victoria Janek on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, charging her with having an improper relationship between an educator and a student.
Authorities released the former Mullin Independent School District teacher and coach on a $50,000 bond.
The investigation began when detectives received a report on November 13, 2024, regarding a possible improper relationship within their jurisdiction.
Detective Peyton Donahoo led the investigation, which revealed that Janel allegedly developed a relationship with a Mullin High School student while employed by the district.
According to police, Janek invited the student to her Brownwood residence multiple times, where sexual activity occurred.
Investigators confirmed these allegations during subsequent interviews with Janek and others connected to the case.
The Brown County Grand Jury returned an indictment against Janek during its April session.
Mullin ISD Terminates Employee Following Inappropriate Conduct Confession
Mullin ISD took swift action after learning about the situation. In a press release, the district stated they received notification on April 4, 2025, that Janek had confessed to inappropriate conduct with a high school student.
School officials immediately reported her to Child Protective Services, suspended her employment, and banned her from all school property and activities.
The Mullin ISD Board of Trustees voted to terminate Janek’s employment on April 7, 2025.
The Superintendent also filed a report with the Texas Education Agency regarding her conduct.
Mullin ISD stated in their release,
“While we are sickened by the conduct of this former employee, we know that this incident is not a reflection of the many exceptional educators teaching in classrooms across the District. We are committed to supporting the students and families impacted and ending the school year strong for all of our children.”

The district is providing additional counseling services through their school psychologist and their contract with Texas Child Health Access through Telemedicine to support affected students and families.
Janek previously coached at Brookesmith ISD and played basketball at Howard Payne University before her employment at Mullin ISD.
