Former Newtown High School alum and member of the school’s soccer team, Chip Warner, is no longer with us. His life was tragically cut short in an automobile accident on September 23, 2025.
According to a friend of Warner, George Munson, the automobile accident he was involved in is believed to have been triggered by a medical incident.

The Saco, Maine resident was active in many physical activities apart from soccer.
Beyond his own sports, Chip loved cheering for others – he was an avid fan of the University of Connecticut Huskies and followed Major League Baseball, especially the New York Mets.
In addition to his friend, Warner’s cousin, Karen Warner, also paid her tribute. According to Karen, Chip was a kind, humble, and animal-loving person.
She said her cousin was also a former teacher, a fun softball teammate at their reunions through the decades.
The late soccer player was one of four children of his parents, Wilfred and Ruth Warner. His siblings are mentioned as Rick, Ben, and Susan.
Chip Warner Played Soccer During His Time At Newtown High School
Warner was originally from Newtown, Connecticut. According to his Facebook account, Warner lived in Saco, Maine, at the time of his passing.
The Connecticut native’s love for sports, both as a player and a fan, is also evident in his friend George Munson’s tribute.
According to Munson, Chip Warner was not only active and athletic but also deeply kind, generous, and thoughtful.
George, who is also originally from Newtown, Connecticut, described Chip as someone who shared his time, experiences, and care with everyone around him.
He added that his late friend made a lasting impact through his daily acts of giving. Munson, who later studied at the University of Connecticut, also recalled playing alongside Chip on the Newtown High School soccer team in Connecticut.
In addition to soccer, Chip was an all-around athlete, always staying physically active and participating in various sports and activities.
George wrote, “Warner valued teamwork, school spirit, and fitness, traits that defined both his athletic and personal life.”
Furthermore, the late soccer player didn’t only love to play the games. His friend said Warner was an avid supporter of the University of Connecticut Huskies and a devoted fan of the New York Mets.
It seems Warner didn’t go to college. Regardless, he was enthusiastic for college and professional sports.
The Maine resident’s passion for athletics reflected his lively, energetic, and spirited personality, which was evident to all who knew him.
Beyond sports, Chip’s heart shone in many ways. He was deeply involved in his church, dedicated to teaching children, and cherished his “fur babies,” enjoying their company whenever possible.
George added that, though naturally shy, Warner actively participated in family gatherings, vacations, and celebrations, generously sharing his experiences with friends and loved ones.
