Jon and his brother were raised in an athletic environment by their parents, who supported them in becoming the successful individuals they are today.

Jon Gruden is a former NFL head coach known for leading the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to a Super Bowl victory in 2003.

He also had a second stint with the Oakland/Las Vegas Raiders from 2018 to 2021.

In 2021, he resigned after emails containing racist, misogynistic, and homophobic language, sent between 2011 and 2018, were leaked during an NFL investigation into the Washington Commanders.

Gruden sued the NFL and Commissioner Roger Goodell, alleging that the league orchestrated a campaign to damage his career by leaking these emails.

Recently, former head coach Jon Gruden won an important legal battle against the NFL.

On August 11, 2025, the Nevada Supreme Court ruled 5-2 in Gruden’s favor, allowing his lawsuit to move forward in civil court instead of going through the NFL’s arbitration process.

The court decided that the NFL’s arbitration clause was unfair and shouldn’t apply to Gruden.

In addition to his legal pursuits, Gruden has expressed a strong desire to return to coaching, particularly in the Southeastern Conference (SEC).

During a visit to the University of Georgia football team, he stated,

I want to coach again. I’d die to coach in the SEC.

While he is currently a media personality with Barstool Sports, Gruden’s comments suggest he is actively seeking opportunities to re-enter the coaching profession.

Jon Gruden’s Parents, Jim And Kathy, Were Together For Nearly 64 Years until Kathy’s Passing!

Jon Gruden was born on August 17, 1963, in Sandusky, Ohio, to Jim and Kathy Gruden.

His father, Jim, had a significant influence on Jon’s career in football.

Jim served as an assistant coach at Notre Dame under head coach Dan Devine during Jon’s teenage years.

Later, he worked as a regional scout, quarterbacks coach, and director of player personnel for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

On the other hand, Jon’s brother, Jay Gruden, also pursued a career in football, playing and coaching in the Arena Football League and serving as head coach of the Washington Redskins.

Likewise, Jon’s mother, Kathy Gruden, graduated from Heidelberg College and was a dedicated educator who taught for 25 years.

She was also deeply involved in her family’s activities and was a longstanding member of Lake Magdalene United Methodist Church.

Tragically, she passed away on May 12, 2023, in Lutz, Florida, at the age of 85.

Jon Gruden And His Wife, Cindy, Are Proud Parents To Their Three Sons!

On the flip side, Jon Gruden, himself, is a father of three sons: Deuce, Michael, and Jayson, with his wife, Cindy.

The couple met in 1985 while Jon was a graduate assistant at the University of Tennessee and Cindy was a student there. They married in 1991.

Cindy has been a supportive partner throughout Jon’s coaching career and has also been involved in charitable activities.

She is known for her philanthropic work, particularly in cancer-related causes, and has supported various charitable organizations alongside Jon.

Their eldest son, Deuce Gruden, has followed in his father’s footsteps in the football world.

He served as the assistant strength and conditioning coach for the Las Vegas Raiders.

He is a competitive powerlifter who won gold at the 2017 IPF World Classic Powerlifting Championships in the junior 83kg weight class.

Michael Gruden has pursued a career in music. He is a DJ and music producer known by the stage name “Hexed.”

Likewise, the youngest one, Jayson Gruden, initially trained in Muay Thai kickboxing and competed in the sport.

He has since shifted his focus to music, collaborating with his brother Michael in music composition and working as a contractual music assistant at HEXED.
