Former Rio Grande City High School Football Player Jacob Guerra Dies at 26!

The former Rio Grande City High School football player, Jacob Guerra, passed away at 26, leaving behind his parents and two siblings.

Jacob coaches from the high school describes him as an extraordinary young man, respectful, hardworking, responsible, a friend to many, and a tremendous teammate.

Rio Grande City Community Mourns the loss of Jacob Guerra!

While the exact cause of Jacob Guerra’s death is not yet made public, what is known is that he passed away on December 7, 2025, in McAllen, Texas.

Following his death, many of his former teammates and coaches have shared heartfelt messages through Facebook posts and comments.

His coach, AJ Garcia from Rio Grande City High School, confirmed his passing in a Facebook post where he said:

Today I received some heartbreaking news, the passing of one of my former football players at Rio Grande City High School, Jacob Guerra. He was an extraordinary young man, respectful, hardworking, responsible, a friend to many and a tremendous teammate. As a coach and leader of young men, we strive to instill outstanding traits to overcome life’s challenges. Although I’m unsure of the challenges he faced, it’s unfortunate that a young life with boundless potential has ended. I grieve with his family and teammates. Prayers for his family, May he rest in peace

Following the coach’s post, many have expressed their sympathy and grief to the family and shared their memories of Jacob.

While his fellow classmates and coach remember him for his support and strength in the game, he is now survived by his parents and siblings.

Jacob was one of the three childrens of Reynaldo and Rosalinda Guerra. He has two siblings, brother Justin Rey Guerra and sister Jesi Rae Beatriz Guerra.

In addition to them, Jacob is also survived by his uncle, Juan Manuel Guerra, his aunt Erika Guerra, and several cousins and nephews.

To honor Jacob’s memory, services will be held at Sanchez Funeral Home in Rio Grande City on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, from 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

Following that, a rosary will take place at 6:00 pm. The viewing will continue on Thursday, December 11, 2025, starting at 8:00 am at Rio Grande City County Cemetery.

We express our heartfelt condolences to Jacob’s friends, family, and everyone who knew him. May he rest in peace.
