Former RIT Basketball Player, Brandon Freeman Dies Untimely Leaving His Parents Behind

This article was last updated by on

The tragic death of Brandon Freeman, a former basketball star at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), has left his family and community in shock.

Freeman, a 6-foot-3 guard/forward who played for RIT from 2004 to 2007, was known for his athleticism and dedication.

His untimely passing was not due to natural causes but the result of a violent confrontation that had shaken the small town of Avon, New York.

On Sunday morning, Livingston County emergency services were called to West Main Street in Avon following reports of a man in medical distress after falling down a flight of stairs.

Freeman, who was initially described as intoxicated, was rushed to Strong Memorial Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

However, further investigation revealed that his fall was not accidental.

Authorities discovered that Jonathan Mills, a 61-year-old resident of Avon, had intentionally pushed Freeman during an argument.

Mills has since been arrested by Avon police and charged with manslaughter.

He is currently held in the Livingston County Jail on $100,000 cash bail or $200,000 bond.

The investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges may be filed as more details emerge.

Brandon Freeman Was A Talented Athlete, A Dedicated Professional, And A Beloved Community Member

A graduate of Avon High School in New York, he excelled in basketball and football, earning honorable mention honors for All-County and All-Greater Rochester.

Freeman impressed coaches and teammates at RIT with his versatility on the court. His coach remarked,

“Brandon has been a pleasant surprise in pre-season. He is an athletic forward who can rebound and score from the perimeter”

After graduating from RIT in 2007 with a degree in civil engineering, Freeman pursued further education at the University of Utah, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in 2011.

His professional career was equally commendable.

He worked as a supervisor at UPS before interning at MRB Group, PC.

Over the years, he built a successful career as a project engineer and later as a project manager for Crane Hogan Structural Systems, where he worked for 12 years.

Freeman’s Death Has Left A Void In The Lives Of Those Who Knew Him

Friends and colleagues described him as hardworking, kind-hearted, and full of potential.

His parents are now struggling with the unimaginable pain of losing their son under such tragic cases.

While the motive behind the confrontation with Mills remains unclear, the incident has sparked outrage and grief among community members.

Questions linger about what led to this confrontation and why Freeman found himself at that location on Sunday morning.

Jonathan Mills faces serious legal consequences for his actions.

Charged with one count of manslaughter, he could face additional charges as investigators piece together the events leading up to Freeman’s death.

Mills’ arrest highlights the severity of the crime and underscores the need for justice for Brandon Freeman and his grieving family.

As friends and family remember Brandon Freeman’s life, they reflect on his achievements on and off the court.

From his days as a standout athlete at Avon High School to his career as an accomplished civil engineer, Freeman’s legacy is one of perseverance and excellence.

As investigations continue, those who loved him remain focused on honoring his memory while seeking answers and justice.

Brandon Freeman’s story is one of promise cut short—a young man who gave so much to his community but whose life ended far too soon.
