Former Roosevelt High School Basketball Star, Shaniya Denson, Dies Untimely At 18, Leaving Her Parents Shattered

Shaniya Denson, a Portland, Oregon native and basketball player, passed away this week at an untimely age of 18, leaving her family, friends, and loved ones devastated.

While her family and friends haven’t shared the actual cause of her untimely death, many of her loved ones are paying tribute to the late Shaniya Denson and extending their heartfelt condolences to her family during this difficult time.

Triple Threat Mentoring, a nonprofit organization, took to their official social media page to pay tribute to their basketball star.

Triple Threat Mentoring described Shaniya Denson as a beautiful soul, a loving daughter, a cherished sister, a loyal teammate, and a true friend to so many.

“Shaniya’s heart was as warm as her smile. She carried kindness wherever she went, lifting others up without even trying. Whether on the court, at home, or in everyday moments, her light made life a little brighter for everyone around her.”

Triple Threat Mentoring

In response to her untimely death, many of her friends and loved ones are recalling Shaniya’s memories.

One wrote:

“Rest in Heaven, babygirl 🫶🏾🕊️🫶🏾 This news hit hard… so young, so talented…. So much motivation. Your heart will forever live. 💛💛”

Another added:

“Rest in our love, beautiful Shaniya. Thank you for teaching me so many lessons around kindness and love all these years. 🖤🫶🏼 I love you.”

Shaniya Denson Was a Standout Basketball Player at Roosevelt High School

The Portland, Oregon native, Shaniya Denson, who recently graduated from Roosevelt High School prior to her untimely death, won the hearts of many with her remarkable high school basketball career.

Wearing the No. 22 jersey, Shaniya Denson played basketball for Roosevelt High School’s varsity basketball team.

As a senior in 2024-25, she played in five games, averaging 6.4 points, 5.8 rebounds, 0.4 assists, and 2.0 steals per game, helping Roosevelt finish with a 6-18 overall record and a 2-11 league mark.

During her junior year in 2023-24, Denson also appeared in five games, contributing 3.2 points and 3.0 rebounds per game.

Throughout her varsity career, she played in 10 games, averaging 4.8 points, 4.4 rebounds, 0.3 assists, and 1.1 steals per game, establishing herself as a hardworking forward on the court.

Shaniya’s remarkable athletic journey and contribution to the community will always be remembered.
