Former Softball Coach Rex Pope Leaves Behind His Son, Following The Passing Of His Beloved Wife Of 50 years, Dana

Rex Pope’s wife, Dana Jean Pope, worked at Eckerd’s for 27 years and was a member of the EPC Methodist Church.

Rex Pope, a lifelong athlete and former softball coach, passed away on Thursday, April 17, 2025, at 83. The cause of death has not been mentioned.

Born on May 17, 1941, in Marshall, Texas, Pope was the son of the late Luke and Velma Pope. He attended Marshall High School and later served his country in the United States Air Force.

In addition, he coached his son’s soccer and softball teams throughout his life. He was passionate about the outdoors and spent countless hours fishing, hunting, and watching ball games.

Rex Pope Met His Wife, Dana Pope, While Stationed In Lubbock

Rex and Dana Pope met in Lubbock and married in 1960 after dating for several years.

After marriage, they settled down and started their family in Dallas, where Rex joined and became a proud and dedicated member of Local Union 100.

Sadly, their married life ended after 50 years following the tragic death of Dana Pope on October 27, 2010, at 69. Visitation was held on Saturday, October 30, 2010, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Directors.

Funeral services were held at Williams Memorial Chapel on Sunday, October 31, 2010, at 3:30 p.m.

Dana was born on September 15, 1941, in Lubbock, Texas, and was a member of the EPC Methodist Church. She grew up with her brothers, Bill and Mike Beaty, and sister, Sheila Jackson.

Rex And Dana Pope Were Blessed With Two Children

Rex and Dana Pope shared two sons: Bobby J. Pope and Lance E. Pope.

According to Lance’s Facebook handle, he lives in Mesquite, Texas, attended Bryan Adams High School, and later graduated from plumbers and steamfitters trade school in 1997.

He worked at United Station and Plumbers & Steamfitters Local 100.

In November 1991, he married Sharon Wilson Pope. Recently, Lance shared the details of the services for his father, Rex.

On the other hand, Bobby J. Pope lives in Dallas, Texas, attended Bryan Adams High School, and later studied Plumbing at Plumbers and Pipefitters Apprenticeship School.

He also served as a Pipefitter/Welder at United Station and UA Local 100. Bobby was married to Karen, but they divorced after several years.

In addition, Rex is survived by his five grandchildren: Randy, William, Renee, Cody, and Laura Pope Cottrell.
