Rebecca Elizabeth Sauerbrunn, also known as Becky Sauerbrunn, is an American professional soccer player who plays as a center back.
She co-captained the United States national team alongside Carli Lloyd from 2016 to 2018 and served as the team captain from 2021 to 2023.
Becky played college soccer for the Virginia Cavaliers before starting her professional career with the Washington Freedom in Women’s Professional Soccer in 2010.
She won gold with the national team at the 2012 London Summer Olympics, the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup, and the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
In March 2016, she was one of five women’s national team players to file a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission alleging wage discrimination compared to the men’s national team.
On December 17, 2024, she announced her retirement from soccer, marking the end of a 16-year career in the sport.

Former professional soccer player Becky Sauerbrunn announced on her podcast that she is pregnant and expecting a child in October 2025.
On Tuesday, May 20, 2025, Becky took to her Good Vibes FC podcast, which she co-hosts, to make the announcement.
Co-host Sam Mewis asked Becky about her good vibes moment.
Then, Becky revealed her pregnancy and said she is expecting a child in October with her partner, Zola Short.
Becky has been working on broadcast for TNT Sports this year and said that her pregnancy would likely take her off for a while.
She plans to continue her podcasting duties. In the podcast, she added,
“I’m not going to be doing broadcast after a while,” “I’ll be hopefully still doing stuff with you here in-house, but I’m going to be taking it easy for a little bit coming up here. And it just felt like the right time.”

Becky Sauerbrunn And Zola Short Have Been Together For Over A Decade
Becky Sauerbrunn and Zola Short met while playing soccer at the University of Virginia.
They were both students and athletes there, and their shared experience on the soccer team led to their relationship.
Although the couple has been dating for a decade, they have not yet announced their wedding plans.
According to Zola’s LinkedIn profile, he earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia and subsequently obtained his master’s degree from Georgetown University.
From August 2008 to July 2010, he served as the marketing coordinator at Octagon. He was a programs and marketing coordinator at the U.S. Soccer Foundation for 2 years and 1 month.
He also served as the category director, asset manager, and senior manager at Adidas for around 9 years and 11 months.
Since January 2024, Zola has been serving as the senior director of soccer sports marketing at Adidas.
