The Dubuque, Iowa, community is heartbroken over the sudden loss of Terrell “TJ” Fowler, a vibrant 22-year-old whose life was cut short on Saturday, June 21, 2025.
TJ, a former basketball standout at Wahlert High School, was a beloved son, brother, and friend whose compelling smile and kind spirit touched the lives of countless people.
His untimely passing has left his family, friends, and the entire community suffering with grief, but his legacy of love, faith, and joy will live on.
Born on April 27, 2003, in Chicago, TJ was the first child of Sheena Longstreet and Terrell Fowler.
Raised alongside his younger sister, Antoinetta, and brother, LaCortland, TJ grew up in a close-knit family filled with love and support.
His early years were spent in Dubuque, where he attended Prescott and Fulton Elementary Schools, followed by Jefferson Middle School.
In 2021, TJ graduated from Wahlert High School, leaving an unforgettable mark as a talented athlete and cherished friend.
After high school, TJ pursued a degree in Business Administration at Indian Hills Community College.
His ambition and drive were evident in everything he did, from his studies to his passion for basketball.
But beyond his academic and athletic pursuits, TJ’s true gift was his ability to connect with people, especially children, who were drawn to his warm and playful personality.

In 8th grade, TJ accepted Jesus Christ as the head of his life, a decision that guided his actions and deepened his commitment to his community.
At Wahlert High School, he became a key player on the basketball team, recognized for his exceptional skills, determination, and sportsmanship.

His teammates and coaches remember him as a leader who lifted everyone around him.
Off the court, TJ’s vibrant personality shone even brighter. He had a talent for making people laugh, often breaking into Michael Jackson-inspired dance moves that left everyone in stitches.
His smile could light up a room, and his kind heart made him a magnet for those around him.
Whether he was mentoring kids at the Dream Center or spending time with family, TJ had a way of making everyone feel seen and valued.
TJ’s love for children was one of his defining traits. Children are naturally drawn to him, attracted by his playful energy and genuine care.
He spent countless hours volunteering at the Dubuque Dream Center, where he mentored young people and shared his passion for basketball and faith.
His ability to connect with others, especially the younger generation, made him a role model in the community.

He is survived by his parents, Sheena Longstreet and Terrell Fowler, his siblings, Antoinetta and LaCortland, as well as his grandparents and many extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his great-grandmother, Delores Longstreet, and his aunt, Brenda Longstreet, who surely welcomed him with open arms.
The news of TJ’s death sent shockwaves through Dubuque, with tributes pouring in from friends, teammates, and community members.
Social media posts on various platforms have highlighted the significant impact TJ had, with many sharing memories of his infectious laughter, impressive dance moves, and unwavering kindness.

Visitation for TJ will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, July 4, at Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Funeral Home and Crematory, located at 2659 JFK Road, Dubuque.
Visitation will continue on Saturday, July 5, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 1 p.m. at the Grand River Center.
The service will be a time to reflect on TJ’s life, share stories, and find comfort in the love he spread so freely.
Though TJ’s time on earth was far too short, his impact will endure. He was a son, a brother, a friend, and a beacon of light in his community.
