A physical altercation between a UTSA fan and an 18 year old UTRGV student during Saturday’s football game at the Alamodome has drawn wide attention online after video of the incident spread across social media.
San Antonio police are now investigating the confrontation, which left the teen with facial bruising and a split lip.
The clash occurred during the first ever meeting between the UTSA Roadrunners and the UTRGV Vaqueros, a matchup that brought fans from both schools together at the Alamodome. According to the student’s father, Frank Puente, his son Frankie and a group of friends were seated near a man who appeared to be intoxicated and had reportedly been taunting the group throughout the game.
How the Confrontation Started
Puente said the dispute began over something small. His son rested his foot on an empty seat next to the other fan to relieve pressure on his knee. The man reportedly took issue with this and pushed the teen’s foot away, leading to a heated exchange of words. A friend nearby began filming as tensions rose, and the footage would later capture the fight that followed.
Puente described his son as attempting to stand up during the argument when he lost his balance. That is when, according to Puente, the other man became angry and began throwing punches. The teen was taken to an emergency room afterward, where he was examined and released a few hours later with visible injuries to his face.
Puente said his son felt embarrassed by the incident but was otherwise doing well emotionally. As a parent, he admitted the situation was difficult to process once he saw the video.

The video has generated significant discussion online, with many commenters weighing in on who was at fault.
