Former NBA coach Randy Wittman and his wife, Kathy Wittman, have maintained a remarkably private life, steering clear of controversies throughout their relationship. The couple has deliberately avoided the spotlight, choosing to stay off social media and rarely discussing their marriage, even during Randy’s high-profile NBA career.
Born and raised in Indianapolis, Indiana, Wittman played high school basketball at Indianapolis Ben Davis High School. He averaged 23 points and became one of the nation’s top recruits.
Wittman played four years of college basketball at Indiana University Bloomington and won the Big Ten Championship in his sophomore year.
Randy recorded 1529 points, 432 assists, and 405 rebounds and became a member of Indiana’s Hall of Fame in 1996.

The Washington Bullets selected Wittman as their 22nd overall pick in the 1983 NBA Draft, but he was later traded to the Atlanta Hawks. He played six seasons with the Hawks and averaged 12 points and 3.5 assists.
Wittman also put on the jerseys of the Kings and the Pacers and retired in 1992. Soon after retiring, Wittmn focused his attention on his basketball coaching career.
He became an assistant coach with the Pacers and joined the Mavs and the Timberwolves later. For the time in his career, Wittman became an NBA head coach and led the Cavaliers team for three seasons until 2001.
He returned to the Timberwolves as an assistant coach and had a short stint with the Magic before becoming the Timberwolves’ head coach in 2006.
Wittman joined the Wizards in 2009 as an assistant coach and became their head coach in 2012. The Wizards fired Wittman in 2016 after the team failed to reach playoffs.
Since then, Wittman hasn’t actively looked to join any other NBA teams.
Randy Wittman’s Wife, Kathy Wittman, Is Not Too Fond of The Media
Unlike several WAGs of former and current NBA coaches, Randy Wittman and his wife, Kathy, have shown no interest in telling their love story to the media.
As a coach, Randy entered the NBA in 1993, and even after three decades, there isn’t much information about Randy and his family.
In 2011, in an interview with the NBA website, Randy revealed his wife, Kathy, was a breast cancer survivor.
Kathy was pictured by the media when her husband became the Cavaliers head coach in 1999, and that was one of the few times Kathy was seen in public.
She stood smiling alongside her husband and their two kids, Ryan and Lauren.
On her Facebook handle, Kathy shared a photo that read “Stand Up To Cancer.” She used the same slogan in one of her profile pictures as well.
It’s been nearly a decade since Kathy last shared a post on her social media handle.
Kathy And Randy Have Raised Two Kids
Kathy and Randy Wittman are parents to Lauren and Ryan Wittman.
Lauren Wittman Taylor graduated from Indiana University Bloomington with a Tourism Management degree in 2013.
She worked for a decade at White Lodging Services and served in the position of Director of Event Management for three years before leaving the company in 2023.
She currently works at Omni Hotels & Resorts as a Director of Convention Services.
Lauren is available on Facebook and has shared a few snaps with her family and friends.
Initially, Ryan followed in his father’s footsteps and played high school and college basketball.
At Eden Prairie High School, Ryan was one of five finalists of the Minnesota Mr. Basketball Award as a senior.
He was named first-team all-state by the Timberwolves and second-team all-state by the Pioneer Press.
He enrolled at Cornell University and was named Ivy League Rookie of the Year in 2006. In his sophomore year, Ryan averaged 15.1 points per game, coming fifth in the Ancient Eight and ranked in the top 10 in other categories.
As a junior, Ryan ranked second in the Ivy League in scoring with 18.5 points per game and was unanimous selection to the All-Ivy first-team.
In his final seasons at Cornell, Ryan won Ivy League Player of the Year honors.
Despite his college success, Ryan went undrafted in 2010 and played basketball in Europe in 2010 and 2011.
After returning to the US, Ryan joined Morgan Stanley Smith Barney as a Financial Advisor and later became a Financial Analyst at CSM Corporation.
In 2013, he enrolled in Boston College’s MBA program and was their Men’s Basketball graduate assistant.
Since 2022, Ryan has been working as Chief Financial Officer for MarathonLS.
