Bob Evans, a former Yorkville High School coach, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 5, 2025, four hours before his 80th birthday.

His wife, Anita Lee Pope Evans, announced the tragic news on social media.

Coach Evans was a true icon of Yorkville High School, and the Yorkville Foxes recently took a moment to celebrate him. He was a former football coach, teacher, and long-time legend.

The school held a special ceremony to recognize him for his profound impact on the community.

However, he was unable to attend due to health reasons, but his wife and sons were present to accept the honor on his behalf.

Coach Evans touched the lives of countless student-athletes and families throughout his career. He leaves behind a powerful legacy built on leadership, dedication, and immense pride in the Fox community.

Bob Evans Passed Away at 79

Bob Evans was a former football coach whose passion and dedication left an indelible mark on the lives of countless athletes.

Sadly, he passed away peacefully on Sunday, just four hours before his 80th birthday, after a period of declining health.

Football was about more than wins and losses for Coach Evans. It was a medium for teaching character, discipline, and resilience.

His influence extended far beyond the gridiron, as he dedicated his life to mentoring young people and helping them realize their potential both on and off the field.

He was a steadfast believer in his athletes, and his legacy lives on in the men they became.

Coach Evans married Anita Lee Pope Evans, and they have two sons, John and Jim. His family members attended the Yorkville High School event dedicated to him on Friday, October 3, at the homecoming football game.

Unfortunately, his tragic passing saddened the whole community, and many remembered him in their heartfelt tribute.

Sad day for many in my hometown and area. Former YHS Football Coach Bob Evans has passes away! What a great teacher, coach, and friend to many, including myself. Shout, Go Big Red in Heaven.

Coach Evans is survived by his loving wife of many years, Anita, their two children, John and Jim, and a community of former players, friends, and family who will cherish his memory.

The Evans family will hold a visitation to honor and celebrate Coach’s life on Sunday, October 12, at Nelson Funeral Home in Yorkville from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

A funeral service will immediately follow the visitation at the exact location.

Coach Evans will be profoundly missed, but the strength of his spirit will continue to guide all who knew him.
