Michelle Koike, a former volleyball player at Franklin Pierce University, passed away peacefully on November 5, 2025, surrounded by her loving friends and family.
She was a fighter and was recently diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

Michelle successfully transitioned from the volleyball court to the tech world.
She was a standout three-sport athlete at Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep, excelling in volleyball, basketball, and swimming.
She shone brightest on the volleyball court, leading her team to the state championships and earning all-league honors.
Michelle continued to play volleyball at Franklin Pierce University, where she was second on the team in hitting percentage and earned Northeast 10 Conference Newcomer of the Week honors three times.
Later, she spent four years at Gonzaga University, shifting her focus to a new field. She expanded her skills in photography and filmmaking by moving into User Experience (UX) design.
Mish and I are friends through club volleyball in high school. Mommy, raising both me and Zaki alone, wasn’t able to get me to/from practices and out of town tournaments very often. With lots of help from teammates, especially Mish and her dad Wayne, and my mom’s own financial sacrifices, I was able to play club volleyball for 5 years. It truly was one of my greatest passions and happiest memories growing up.

A Community’s Love Surrounds Michelle Koike in Her Final Days
Michelle Koike was the daughter of Wayne and Frances Koike. Her parents raised her in a close-knit family alongside her sister in San Francisco, California.
After a recent and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer, she passed away peacefully on November 5, 2025.

Michelle demonstrated the strength and resilience that defined her life until the very end.
She was a beloved daughter, sister, teammate, and friend, whose warmth and empathetic spirit left an indelible mark on those who knew her.
She was a dedicated athlete who forged lifelong bonds, exemplifying the importance of teamwork and collaboration. Off the court, she enjoyed traveling, photography, and attending live music events.
Moreover, Michelle was a cherished daughter of Wayne, the ultimate “girl dad” who filled her childhood with love, guidance, and unwavering support.
He was a constant and loving presence in her life and the life of her sister, from Sunday church services to countless basketball and volleyball games. He instilled in them the values of dedication, family, and perseverance.
Sadly, he passed away in August 2024.
Wayne was hardworking, but his heart was always with his family. Proud of his Japanese heritage, he made sure we stayed connected to our roots. Humble, generous, and forever trying to master his golf swing — that’s how I’ll always remember him. Though we are heartbroken his grandchildren won’t get the chance to know him, we will carry on his memory through them. 🤍

In her final days, Michelle was comforted by the immense love of her community.
Her loved ones, including Gabby and Frankie, ensured she was enveloped in the same compassion she so freely gave to others.
Michelle’s passing leaves a void that cannot be filled, but her legacy of kindness, strength, and grace will continue to inspire those fortunate enough to have shared in her journey.
She will be remembered not for the disease she fought, but for the vibrant, caring, and resilient woman she was.
A GoFundMe page has been established to help alleviate the financial burden on her family. The family is deeply grateful for the incredible outpouring of support, which serves as a beautiful reflection of Michelle’s enduring spirit.
Furthermore, the Koike family will soon hold a memorial service to celebrate the life of Michelle Koike.
