Austin Metcalf was a talented junior middle linebacker for Frisco Memorial High School. His impressive stat line included 67 solo tackles and 24 assists.

His performance earned him recognition in Texas 5A-2 rankings, where he finished 53rd in total tackles statewide and 8th in his district.

Tragically, Austin was stabbed to death during a track meet between Frisco Memorial and Frisco Centennial High School.

Frisco Police Department said the incident occurred at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at Kukendall Stadium.

Police have identified Karmelo Anthony as the primary suspect in the stabbing. He is in police custody and has been charged with murder.

An investigation into the crime is currently underway, and no bond has been set for Anthony at this time.

The district said that moments after the stabbing, the stadium was immediately secured, the meet was suspended, and all students returned to their home campus.

A vigil will be held in Metcalf’s honor on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at Hope Fellowship Church in Frisco. The event is meant to offer space for student solidarity.

Frisco ISD’s Board of Trustees responded to the incident in a written statement,

“We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of a student within Frisco ISD. The Board of Trustees shares in the profound grief of this senseless act of violence and extends its deepest condolences to the victim’s family, friends, and loved ones. A young life ending far too soon is a heartbreaking reminder that violence is never the answer to conflict,”
