Gavin Bazunu’s parents, Green Bazunu and Cara Farrelly, come from different ethnicities. Green hails from Lagos, Nigeria, and Cara is native to Ireland.
The Republic of Ireland goalkeeper, with his younger brother, was raised by his mom. His dad too supported him and was the one to introduce him to the sport.
Bazunu began his soccer journey from Shamrock Rovers and was quickly snapped up by Manchester City in 2019. He didn’t make a single appearance for City and was loaned out to Portsmouth and Rochdale.
Bazunu moved to Southampton in 2022, and the move hasn’t gone well. In his first season, the club exited the Premier League, and that too with the second-most goals conceded. Now, there are rumors the youngster might be replaced in the starting lineup by the more experienced player, Alex McCarthy.
Gavin Bazunu Parents, Green Bazunu, And Cara Farrelly
Gavin Bazunu’s parents, Green Bazunu and Cara Farrelly helped the soccer player focus on two different areas of life.
If his dad, Green, a soccer enthusiast, introduced him to the sport he now plays professionally, then his mom, Cara, took care of the academic part. As a Manchester United fan, it would have hurt Green to see his son play for the city rivals.
But not every dad can say his son is part of the Manchester City academy. Cara ensured her son attended his classes. The youngster began studying Sports Science after moving to Manchester City in 2019.
Green and Cara aren’t together but have played equally vital roles in their son’s life. But the goalkeeper is much closer to his mum. In an interview, Cara said she still has tickets to her son’s debut match for Rovers against Bray Wanderers.
After a few matches with Shamrock Rovers and excellent displays with the Ireland U-21 team, Gavin was scouted by Manchester City. He and Cara were invited to visit the Etihad Campus in August 2018.
Even while discussing Gavin’s soccer dreams with the City coaches, Cara couldn’t help but ask what would happen to his academics. But they assured Cara her son was in the safe hands, with Cara later complimenting their head of education.
Cara works for BT Sourced in a prominent position and previously worked for Vodafone. In an interview with RTE Radio 1, Cara praised his goalkeeping skills and overall mannerisms. She said Gavin is a charming and articulate boy with his eyes on the prize.
Gavin Bazunu Wants To Be A Role Model For His Younger Brother
Gavin Bazuny has a younger brother, Todd Bazunu, and he has already started following in his brother’s footsteps.
Todd, born on October 4, 2007, plays for the Shamrock Rovers U-17 side. During a conversation with the Independent last year, Gavin said Todd is one of the most important people he wants to inspire.
The Southhampton goalkeeper added his brother would likely surpass him on the physical side and is very smart as well. Playing in the same position as his brother, Todd certainly gets advice from his brother.
Previously, when Gavin had recently joined City, he said he kept in touch with Todd through PlayStation when they played Fortnite or FIFA. Todd is available on Instagram with the username @toddbazunu but has only shared a single post.
