Giselle Bundchen, the former wife of NFL quarterback Tom Brady, is a Brazilian fashion model. She credits her parents, Valdir Bündchen and Vânia Nonnenmacher, for shaping her career.

Her father was a university professor, and her mother was a banker. Vânia enrolled her and her sisters in a modeling course to teach them confidence and better posture.

Elite Model Management discovered her at a shopping center. She then placed second in a national contest called Elite Model Look.

Later, in 1995, she moved to São Paulo to launch her modeling career and debuted at New York Fashion Week in 1996.

She was rejected 42 times in London before being cast in an Alexander McQueen runway show in 1998.

Afterward, she posed for Dolce & Gabbana, Missoni, Valentino, Ralph Lauren, Gianfranco Ferré, Chloé, and Versace campaigns.

Vogue’s online encyclopedia of models called her the world’s hottest model and the Brazilian bombshell in 2000.

In May 2009, The Independent referred to her as the biggest star in fashion history, and she appeared on the cover of American Vogue for the 11th time.

In 2023, she reunited with Victoria’s Secret after 17 years for their Icons campaign, which featured fellow former Angels, brand veterans, and recent supermodels.

Giselle Bündchen’s Parents Raised Her With 5 Sisters

Gisele Caroline Bündchen, the daughter of Valdir Bündchen and Vânia Nonnenmacher, was born on July 20, 1980, in Horizontina, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil.

She was a sixth-generation German Brazilian, and her grandfather, Walter Bündchen, once served as mayor of Horizontina.

Despite learning German in school and having German-speaking parents, she no longer speaks the language. She speaks French, English, Italian, and Spanish in addition to her native Portuguese.

Her family is Catholic, and she grew up with five sisters: Raquel, Graziela, her fraternal twin Patrícia, Gabriela, and Rafaela.

Gisele aspired to be a volleyball player, but her mother enrolled her in a modeling course in 1993.

After completing the course, she and her sisters were rewarded with trips to Curitiba, São Paulo, and Rio de Janeiro.

She was discovered during the trip, which set her on a path to international fame.

Furthermore, her father is a prominent sociologist and writer who holds a master’s degree in marketing administration management, and sustainable development.

He is also a lecturer, writer, and researcher who provides training courses nationwide focused on studying personal profiles and human aptitudes.

Gisele posted a sweet tribute to her father in honor of Father’s Day in Brazil.

Happy Father’s Day to all fathers, but especially to my dear dad. There are no words to express how grateful I am to have you as our foundation, our guide, our example. Your resilience and the way you approach life with curiosity and dedication are inspiring. Today, more than ever, I wanted to give you a big hug and tell you how much I love you. How lucky we are to have you as a father! I love you, dad!

On the other hand, Gisele’s mother was a bank clerk who retired and spent quality time with her family. The supermodel is grateful for her mother, who taught her confidence and hard work.

Sadly, she suffered from a chronic cancer and passed away at 75 on January 28, 2024.

Gisele will forever cherish the beautiful memories she shared with her mother and live by the values she taught her. Moreover, she thanked her for giving her five of her best friends in life.

It’s still hard to say “mom” without getting emotional. There is not a day that goes by that I don’t miss my Mom. My mother was a fantastic human being who always helped everyone around her. She was an incredible role model for my sisters and I. She was strong, loving, and compassionate. There was nothing she couldn’t do. She use to say: “Children are forever. You will always be concerned and wanting to protect them, it doesn’t matter their age.”
